A vehicle bumper includes a bumper beam, a bumper face and an energy-absorbing member provided between the bumper beam and the bumper face. The energy-absorbing member has an L-shaped cross-section and includes a head of a front upper portion protruding upward. A space is formed between the bumper beam and the head. When a collision load acts on the bumper face, the head is deformed toward the space, thus absorbing the impact energy.

Bumper shock absorbing structure

A device for reducing air resistance of a vehicle includes a front bumper, a bumper spoiler, and a mounting piece. The bumper spoiler includes a main body section and a mounting base section which protrudes from a reverse side of the main body section. The mounting base section is made of rigid material capable of being elastically deformed and harder than the main body section. The main body section and the mounting base section are integrally joined to each other. The mounting base section has a first mounting section and a second mounting section. The first mounting section is inserted into and elastically engaged with a first mounting hole of the bumper, thereby being temporarily fixed to the bumper. The second mounting section is inserted into the second mounting hole of the bumper to be finally fixed to the bumper by the mounting piece.

A control system controls a hybrid vehicle having an engine for rotating a drive axle, an electric motor for converting kinetic energy of the drive axle into electric energy in a regenerative mode, a drive control circuit for controlling the electric motor, and electric energy storage device for storing electric energy. The control system has an intake air control unit for controlling an amount of intake air supplied to the engine, and an exhaust gas recirculation control valve for controlling recirculation of exhaust gases from an exhaust system of the engine to an intake system of the engine. A control unit operates the intake air control unit to reduce the amount of intake air and operating the exhaust gas recirculation control valve in an opening direction when the electric motor operates in the regenerative mode while the hybrid vehicle is decelerating.

Control system for hybrid vehicle

A fuel injection method wherein optimum fuel injection timing in a fuel-injection type gas fuel engine is determined by setting fuel injection end timing to be after the start of opening of an intake valve. That is, when injection ends in a first half of the intake valve open period the volumetric efficiency .eta.v falls and the engine output also falls, because the injection period overlaps with a period of positive pressure arising inside the intake pipe before opening of the intake valve, but when injection ends in a second half of the intake valve open period the volumetric efficiency .eta.v rises and the engine efficiency also rises, because the injection period overlaps with a period of negative pressure arising in the intake pipe during the first half of the intake value open period. Consequently, when fuel is injected during this trough in the intake port pressure, the volumetric efficiency increases and the engine output also increases by several percent.
