A liquid crystal display with high contrast and little color difference between white plain color and black plain color is disclosed, in which in the color layers formed on an optically transparent substrate, the contrasts of red (R), green (G), and blue (B) CR, CR, and CRhave a relationship of 16&#xd7;(CR/CR)&#x2212;3&#x3e;CR/CR&#x3e;CR/CR, and the total contrast CRcalculated from the contrasts of color layers CR, CR, and CRand the contrast of a polarizing plate CRsatisfy a relationship of CR/CR&#x3e;0.11.

A lower substrate,on which an adhesive,has been applied and a liquid crystal material,has been deposited is held fixedly by vacuum suction with a suction-holding mechanism,within a vacuum chamber C. Method of manufacturing liquid crystal display device

A method of manufacturing an LCD device, in which, a seal pattern is formed by applying a sealing material for enclosing a liquid crystal on one of a pair of substrates between which liquid crystal is sandwiched. Spacers are formed on the other substrate to determine a cell gap, then the substrates are respectively held by a pair of surface plates disposed in a vacuum chamber, in which at least one of the surface plates is movable. The air-pressure of the vacuum chamber is then decreased, and the alignment of a pair of substrates is performed and a cell gap is formed by pressing the substrates toward each other, by which the gap precision, the gap uniformity and the alignment precision of an LCD device can be improved.

Method of manufacturing liquid crystal display device with a double seal

A rubbing buff is wrapped around a roller so that an axial direction of short fibers on a rubbing cloth crosses diagonally with a roller rolling direction. The roller is placed so that a rotational shaft crosses diagonally with a moving direction of a substrate. Then orientation films formed on an upper and a lower substrates are rubbed by the roller in a first and second directions whereby an orientation direction is determined. As a result, quality display can be realized on an LCD.

This invention relates to a liquid crystal display apparatus formed by sealing a liquid crystal between two substrates having electrodes and an alignment film with a seal material, the production process comprising the steps of attaching two substrates in a vacuum, compressing under atmospheric pressure to provide a uniform cell gap, a temporary hardening process of the seal material by ultraviolet ray irradiation and a main hardening process of the seal material by heating, wherein a radically polymerizable curing resin is used in the liquid crystal seal material. The method provides a liquid crystal display panel having a uniform cell gap, without dislocation of the alighnment between substrates, or discharge of uncured component of a seal material to the liquid crystal, capable of having a seal material firmly attached to the substrates even at panel corner portions, and having an excellent straightness and moisture resistance of the seal material.

Transmission type liquid crystal display device

A large number of liquid crystal display devices is formed on a single plane, each of the liquid crystal display devices being formed by arranging liquid crystal between transparent substrates which allow light from a light source to pass through. Display portions of the respective liquid crystal display devices are covered by a masking member (23) and a light guide which is formed of light guide devices, one or more of which being provided for each of said liquid crystal display devices, and junctions between the liquid crystal display devices are also covered by the light guide. With this structure, when the light guides are formed such that the junctions between the plurality of liquid crystal display devices are also covered, lattice-like non-display lines do not appear, thereby providing substantially visually uniform brightness throughout the entire screen of the large-sized liquid crystal display and improving the entire image.
