A hydraulic excavator periodically measures its current location at predetermined time intervals by the GPS device in an inoperative state where its engine key is in the off position and sends the current location data and time data to a management server by a main controller and communicator. The management server receives the periodically sent location data at its communicator and successively stores it in its memory. The current location data and the measurement time data to provide a location confirmation service by a location information provider. Changes in location can be confirmed on a map, the movement of the hydraulic excavator can be tracked, and assistance can be given for confirmation of location and prevention of theft.

An antitheft system can be provided by constructing such that, when a stop signal has been inputted from an engine, a main controlleroutputs, until a first predetermined time Ts elapses, a turn-on signal to switchesto perform a similar antitheft processing as in an operation of the engineand after an elapse of the first predetermined time Ts, instructs the switchto repeat a turn-on and turn-off at predetermined time intervals &#x394;t, and, whenever the switchis brought into a turned-on position, detects a position at that time by a position detecting controllerand compares the position with a position at the time of an engine stop to determine whether or not a theft has taken place. Owing to this construction, it is no longer necessary to always feed power to the position detecting controllerduring the stop of the engine, thereby making it possible to cut down the feeding of as much power to the controlleras a time elapsed during which the switchis kept off. The antitheft system can, therefore, minimize the power consumption of a control system during the engine stop.

When a mail switcharranged on a working machineis operated to send information to a server, a terminal user-company identification unitidentifies, on the basis of a terminal information database, a user to which the information so received is to be sent. A user-company-dependent mail selection unitselects customer informationon the user from a customer database. At a transmission mail creation unit, a corresponding new messageis created. The mail is then transmitted from a mail output unit. In this manner, a desired message can be sent from each working machineat a remote location to the corresponding user at a timing as needed.

Construction machine management, permitting operation of a construction machine only under specified conditions and inhibiting its operation in case it is in a state incongruent with preset working conditions. Working conditions for each construction machine are set up by a working conditions setup means, including a geographically divided working area and a working time zone in which a construction machine is allowed to operate in a specified working area. Setup working conditions are stored in a memory means. At the time of starting a construction machine, the status of the construction machine is checked for by a status checkup means which is adapted to check for current position of the construction machine and current time against the working area and working time zone of the setup working conditions. In case a construction machine is found to be in a state incongruent with both of the working area and the working time zone of the preset working conditions, the management inhibits operation of that construction machine.

A function changing system of construction machinery includes a hydraulic excavator and a base station. The hydraulic excavator is deployed at a construction site and is provided with a rewritable memory storing control programs and/or data required for control of the machinery, a CPU for reading out the control programs from the memory and executing them, and a communications device The base station is provided with a communications device, a center server for identifying the serial number of the hydraulic excavator and transferring information with the control unit, and a database managed by the center server and storing control programs corresponding to the hydraulic excavator. When changing or switching an attachment of the hydraulic excavator, information is transferred with the center server of the base station and the control programs or data stored in the storage unit are rewritten to enable work suited to the changed part.

To permit grasping operation conditions of a working machine at a control station located at a remote place no matter whether or not a trouble has occurred on the working machine, a CPU of a controller arranged on a hydraulic excavator produces operation data in accordance with signals outputted from operation detecting unit such as various sensors. These operation data are stored in a memory unit on the basis of time outputted from a clock unit, for example, depending upon the day. The operation data stored depending upon the day are outputted from an output unit of the controller to satellite communication terminal equipment, for example, when a key switch has been turned on. The operation data are transmitted from the satellite communication terminal equipment to an earth station via a communication satellite and further, are automatically transmitted from the earth station to a control station via a telephone line such that the operation data can be obtained as daily report data or the like by operating a PC at the control center.

Hydraulic excavators working in fields each include a controller , and an operating time is measured for each of an engine , a front , a swing body and a track body . The measured data is stored in a memory of the controller , transferred to a base station computer through satellite communication, an FD, etc., and stored in a database of the base station computer . In the base station computer , the data stored in the database is read out for each of the hydraulic excavators to obtain a value of an index (e.g., a travel ratio) regarding the state of use of a particular one of the hydraulic excavators and a distribution of the number of operated hydraulic excavators of the same model as the particular hydraulic excavator with respect to the index. The index value and that distribution are compared with each other to determine whether the particular hydraulic excavator is an optimum model. It is therefore possible to make an evaluation after confirming how a customer employs a machine, and to give an advice about the optimum model depending on the state of use of the machines.
