The present invention provides an intake manifold that improves the intake performance and has a reduced weight. The intake manifold includes a surge tank and intake pipes. Each intake pipe has an inlet port that is connected to the surge tank. The inlet ports are arranged along a flow direction of air drawn into the surge tank from the opening of the surge tank, and project into the surge tank along direction that intersects the flow direction. Each adjacent pair of the inlet ports are separated only by a single common pipe wall.

Intake manifold

All the components constituting an air-intake module for an internal combustion engine, including an air cleaner for cleaning air and manifold pipes for distributing air into each cylinder of the engine, are integrated in a single unit. A mounting flange connected to engine side ends of the manifold pipes is fixed to the engine for mounting the air-intake module as a whole. The air cleaner and other components of the module are located under the mounting flange and the manifold pipes, so that the mounting of the module is not obstructed by components constituting the module. An air cleaner element for filtering the intake air is slidably inserted into the air cleaner at a position where the element can be easily serviced from the outside of the module without dismounting any components of the module.

Air-intake module for internal combustion engine

A filter element for an air cleaner including a sheet-like filter medium for purifying air when the air is transferred from one side to the other side of the filter medium, a frame member having a flange confining the filter medium and a side wall formed on the flange, and a fibrous mat having cushioning effect. The filter medium is folded in a sawtooth-shaped pattern and extends along a plane. The filter medium has a base contour contained in the plane and has a sawtooth-shaped peripheral edge section extending along a part of the base contour. The flange outwardly projects from the frame. The side wall is airtightly bonded to the sawtooth-shaped peripheral edge section of the filter medium. The mat continuously extends along the base contour and is fixedly bonded to a surface of the flange facing the other side of the filter medium.
