When the formation unit forms the patch images, the formation unit arranges the images on both sides of a medium. On the front surface of the medium, a low-density patch image is formed, and on the back surface of the medium, a high-density patch image is formed. Alternatively, a media on which the patch image is formed is discharged once, and a user turns the medium upside down and feeds the medium again such that the first and second patch image formation positions differ from each other.
