A physiological state determination device determines a predetermined physiological state of a subject. The physiological state determination device includes a brain function activation information detection unit, a face change information acquisition unit, and a physiological state determination unit. The brain function activation information detection unit detects brain function activation information corresponding to a physiological state. The face change information acquisition unit acquires face change information indicating a time-series change in face data of a subject. The physiological state determination unit determines the predetermined physiological state of the subject based on the brain function activation information and the face change information.

A method for producing a glass substrate according to the present invention includes the steps of: (I) forming a through hole () in a glass sheet (); (II) forming a resin layer () on a first principal surface of the glass sheet () using a resin composition sensitive to light having a predetermined wavelength &#x3bb;; (III) photoexposing an area of the resin layer () that covers the through hole () by irradiating the area with light U having the wavelength &#x3bb;and applied from the direction of a second principal surface of the glass sheet (); and (IV) forming a through-resin hole () by removing the area photoexposed in the step (III). The glass sheet () protects the resin layer () from the light U so as to prevent the resin layer () from being photoexposed by beams of the light U that are incident on the second principal surface of the glass sheet () in the step (III).

The face change information acquisition unit is configured to acquire face change information indicating a time-series change in face data of a subject when emotional stimulation information for stimulating any sense or any combination of senses among an auditory sense, an olfactory sense, a gustatory sense, a tactile sense, and a somatic sensation of the subject to change emotion, and is divided into positive information for increasing comfort and negative information for decreasing comfort is provided to the subject. The mental illness determination unit is configured to determine a state of mental illness of the subject on the basis of the face change information.

In a wavelength selective optical device, a lens for transmitting multiplexed optical signals having a plurality of wavelengths is provided to face an end of a first optical fiber such that light output from the end of the first optical fiber is converted into parallel light, and an optical filter is provided at a location to which the parallel light output from the lens is input. A second optical fiber is provided at a location in which the light reflected from the optical filter is input to the lens again to be focused by the lens. The lens is configured by bonding the ends of two gradient index rod lenses having different refractive index distribution constants and the substantially same outer diameter to each other to align their optical axes to each other.

The lens can be fixed to the housing speedily and easily without using any resin adhesive agent or any welding glass. Moreover, the optical module is excellent in weather resistance and high in reliability and can be produced inexpensively.

Method for producing an optical module

An optical module has a housing of synthetic resin incorporating a lens therein and a semiconductor device of a metal-cap package structure which is held in optical axis alignment with the lens. The optical module is manufactured in provisional and final fixing stages. In the provisional fixing stage, a first thermosetting resin is applied as a plurality of spaced dots to surfaces, to be joined, of a stem of the semiconductor device and an end of the housing, the lens and the semiconductor device are held in optical axis alignment with each other, and a high-frequency current is supplied to a coil extending around the stem to heat the stem to thermoset the first thermosetting resin by high-frequency induction heating. In the final fixing stage, a second thermosetting resin is deposited in a circumferential pattern on an outer circumferential surface of the stem along the end of the housing, and the second thermosetting resin is thermoset by heating.
