There is provided an information processing apparatus including a display unit, and a plurality of sensor elements, wherein the plurality of sensor elements are provided separate from the display unit, wherein the display unit is configured to switch display between a plurality of output screens based on a user input on the plurality of sensor elements, the plurality of output screens including output screens having different hierarchical levels and output screens having a same hierarchical level, and wherein the output screens having different hierarchical levels display information on the different hierarchical levels, and the switching display is controlled to switch display directly between the output screens having different hierarchical levels based on the user input.

Magnetic recording and/or reproducing apparatus having tape guide

A transmission method for digital data which is adapted to transmit a predictive residual at every sample and a predictive coefficient and a normalization gain at every data block to thereby provide highly efficient coding and data transmission. An adaptive quantization method suitable for use in the above-mentioned digital data transmission, forms samples into a block and a predetermined multiplication is effected on the sample of each of the blocks to thereby improve the accuracy of the predictive coefficients. A stable operation may be ensured in the adaptive quantizing method by cancelling the subsequent operation when the auto-correlation of input data is not recognized.

Method of adaptive quantization in differential pulse code modulation

In an apparatus for converting received video signals of a first format, which has a first number of horizontal lines in a field or frame and a picture display of a first aspect ratio, to video signals of a second format, which has a second number of horizontal lines in a field or frame and a picture display of a second aspect ratio; an analog-to-digital converter converts the received video signals of the first format to digital video signals, a memory has addresses at which there are written at least a field of the digital video signals of the first format, whereupon, a reading circuit reads from the memory addresses less samples of the digital video signals than were written in the memory and the digital video signals thus read from the memory are converted back to analog form, and a controller is provided for variably determining a start address of the addresses in the memory from which video signal data are read. In the case where the first aspect ratio is larger than the second aspect ratio, the selection of the start address determines a portion or portions of the picture display of the first aspect ratio to be omitted at least at one side of the picture display of the second aspect ratio.

A digital level detecting circuit for controlling amplitudes of digital audio signals is disclosed, which includes a circuit for generating an attack response of output control signals based on positive going waveforms of an incoming signal and attack response coefficients stored in a memory, and wherein the attack response coefficients stored in the memory are limited to a lower value than the theoretical value at the beginning of the attack response.

A signal processing circuit comprises an amplifying circuit portion having an input terminal connected to a signal source, an output terminal for delivering an amplifier signal therefrom and a control terminal, a capacitive device coupled to the control terminal for serving as a bypass capacitor for the amplifying circuit portion, a charging circuit portion connected to the control terminal for forming a path for a charging current to the capacitive device, a discharging circuit portion also connected to the control terminal for forming a path for a discharging current from the capacitive device, and a control circuit portion having a terminal supplied with a control signal taking at least first and second states and being operative to control both the charging and discharging circuit portions. The control circuit portion controls the charging circuit portion to allow the charging current to flow to the capacitive device so as to produce thereat a potential for making the amplifying circuit portion inoperative when the control signal is turned to take the first state and also control the discharging circuit portion to allow the discharging current to flow from the capacitive device so as to produce a potential thereat for making the amplifying circuit portion operative when the control signal is turned to take the second state.
