When the excitation frequency of a touch panel and the frequency of external noise match or are close, noise cannot be removed by a bandpass filter. In addition, when a touch detection operating period is limited to a short period such as the no addressing period, the signal-to-noise ratio (S/N) decreases because frequency separation decreases and the noise removal effect by averaging is degraded. An electronic device of the present invention includes a sensor system (), an excitation generator () that generates an intermittent sinusoidal signal and applies this signal to the sensor system, and a demodulator () that demodulates the amplitude modulated signal that is the output of the sensor system. The demodulator uses both the response x1(t) of the sensor system in the period in which the excitation generator outputs the sinusoidal signal, and the response z1(t) of the sensor system in the period in which the excitation generator does not output the sinusoidal signal at least either immediately before or immediately after the signal output to generate the demodulated signal D(t).

A device excellent in electrical characteristics is provided by suppressing an operation failure owing to a hysteresis effect that occurs in a circuit using MOS transistors having floating bodies. Moreover, sensitivity of a sense amplifier circuit and a latch circuit including these MOS transistors as components is improved. A signal required in a circuit other than a first circuit is outputted by using electrical characteristics of MOS transistors in a first period (effective period), and in a second period (idle period) excluding the first period, between the gate and source of MOS transistors, a step waveform voltage not less than threshold voltages of these MOS transistors is given.

Provided is a display apparatus capable of reducing the scale of a drive circuit and decreasing the frame. A display area in which pixels are provided in matrix, a scanning line drive circuit for driving scanning lines, and a signal line drive circuit for driving signal lines are provided on a support substrate. The pixel within the display area is constituted with a plurality of dots. Each dot corresponds to a color filter of a certain color. The dot is in a laterally long shape, i.e. in a shape extending in a direction along the scanning lines. In other words, each dot is in a shape extending in parallel with the longitudinal direction of the signal line drive circuit. The color filters are of lateral stripe type, for example.

A display device of high definition, multiple colors and low power consumption includes a display panel having a pixel section in which pixels are arrayed in the form of a matrix at the cross points of a plurality of data lines and a plurality of scanning lines, a scanning circuit for applying voltage sequentially to the plurality of scanning lines, and a data-line driver, which receives display data supplied by a host device, for applying signals corresponding to the display data to the plurality of data lines. Provided external to the display panel is a controller IC having a display memory for storing display data corresponding to the pixel section, an output buffer for reading data out of the display memory and outputting this data to the display panel, and a controller for controlling the display memory and output buffer and communication with the host device. The display panel is provided with a digital/analog converter, which forms part of the data-line driver, for converting display data represented by a digital signal to an analog signal. The width of a bus for data transfer between the controller IC and data-line driver of the display panel is such that data of a greater number of bits is transferred in parallel by a single transfer than is transferred by the bus between the controller and the host device. This allows the operating frequency of the data-line driver to be reduced.
