A motorcycle with a spark plug unit disposed on a front side of a cylinder head wherein approaching the spark plug unit from the front side between a front wheel and the spark plug unit as well as a high-tension cord can be prevented, without increasing the front-rear length of the vehicle. The motorcycle includes an engine with a tubular section containing a spark plug that projects roughly in a forward direction from a front surface of a cylinder head. A spark plug cap which is connected to the spark plug in the inside of the tubular section with the high-tension cord connected to a side portion thereof is fitted to the tubular section. A portion of the tubular section which projects from the cylinder head is formed with a cutout for containing the high-tension cord and for directing the cord toward a lateral side of the tubular section.

Spark plug unit arrangement within a motorcycle internal combustion engine

A shock absorbing structure of a two-wheeled vehicle capable of sufficiently absorbing shock and desirably maintain the steerability of the two-wheeled vehicle. The structure includes a shock absorbing member projecting from a front wheel, wherein the shock absorbing member is crashed when the vehicle collides with an obstacle so as to absorb shock. A ceiling wall of the shock absorbing member is located at such a position that the ceiling wall does not block a forward viewing area for a driver. A center of a leading end contact surface of the shock absorbing member is located at a position higher than a vertical position of a center of gravity G of both a motorcycle and the driver, and right and left side surfaces of the shock absorbing member are offset to a center of a vehicular body from right and left side surfaces of the motorcycle.

Shock absorbing structure of two-wheeled vehicle

An on-vehicle airbag apparatus includes an airbag housing having a weakened portion, which is breakable. An airbag is stored in a folded state in the airbag housing so that the weakened portion is broken upon inflation. An inflator for generating gas for inflating the airbag is provided. The speed of response of air discharge from the airbag is sufficiently enhanced. A shutter that can open and close the air discharge port is mounted on a case. The case is formed of rigid material, is hermetically connected to an opening of the airbag and is provided with the air discharge port. A shutter-driving actuator for driving a shutter from the closed position to the opened position when in operation is connected to the shutter.

On-vehicle airbag apparatus

An airbag apparatus for a motorcycle having a steering handle mounted so as to be capable of rotating with respect to a head pipe mounted at the front end of a main frame is capable of being mounted after assembly, e.g., as an after-market add-on or retrofit to an existing vehicle, or during vehicle assembly or manufacture. An airbag mounting member is mounted so as to extend from the main frame toward the front of the vehicle body across a central axis of rotation of the steering handle and a top bridge of the main frame. An airbag module is mounted on the airbag mounting member so that the upper portion of the airbag module is covered by a covering member.

Airbag apparatus

An inflator unit provided on a main frame of a motorcycle is provided with an inflator case having an inflator stored therein. Gas generated by the inflator flows through the interior of the main frame and is supplied to the airbag. The inflator case includes the left and right case halves divided along the parting plane and joined with each other by two bolts and the internal space thereof narrows towards an exit opening in the funnel shape. The axis Li of the inflator is shifted to the side opposite from the exit opening with respect to the axis Lc of the inflator case. A main frame may be formed with an atmosphere communication hole for communicating the interior of the main frame with the atmosphere at the position near the inflator case so that the atmosphere is introduced through the atmosphere communication port into the interior of the main frame by the negative pressure generated when gas flows from the inflator to the airbag. Thus, a large-volume airbag can be deployed by a small-capacity inflator.

Airbag system

An airbag apparatus for a small size vehicle that includes an airbag, for constraining a driver on a seat from forward motion through an inflation expansion, that reduces the number of parts and achieves miniaturization of the apparatus while constraining the driver on the seat. The airbag includes a main bag portion and an auxiliary bag portion communicating with the inside of the main bag portion through a connecting hole. The auxiliary bag portion is inflated and expanded with gas exhausted from the main bag portion through the connecting hole.

Airbag apparatus for a small size vehicle

To prevent a shock absorbing material mounted on a vehicle body from collapsing or being scattered under the shock at the time of a collision. The four sides of a shock absorbing material formed of a foamed material are surrounded by a bellows form cover consisting of four corrugated plates inclusive of corrugated plates. Under an external force due to collision, the bellows is folded and contracted easily, but is difficult to be deformed in the width directions. Therefore, the shock absorbing material receives the energy upon collision in its initial shape, so that the energy is absorbed substantially by the compression of the shock absorbing material. Accordingly, it suffices to design a set load for the shock absorbing material by taking into account only the shock absorbing material, so that it is easy to design the shape, material and the like of the shock absorbing material.

Shock absorbing device

In order to have an external force heading from the front toward the occupant received, a bumper member extending substantially along the length of the vehicle is disposed under or by the sides of the cabin (riding space). The shock absorbing members are connected at the rear ends of the bumper member. Even in the case of the vehicle in which it is difficult to dispose the shock absorbing member at the front portion of the vehicle within the range of the length of the vehicle for example, when an impact load is exerted to such a vehicle, the impact load may be efficiently absorbed. As a consequent the riding space for an occupant can be maintained. The shock absorbing body may be constructed of an upper shock absorbing member and a lower shock absorbing member. The upper and lower shock absorbing members may be formed of two types of members having different crushing features. Accordingly, since the shock absorbing body is constructed by combining two members having different crushing features, the crushing extent of the shock absorbing body may preferably be determined corresponding to the two-wheel vehicle.

Shock absorbing structure for vehicles

A bumper beam which can be formed easily by simple bending works is provided. The bumper beam is formed into a U-shaped sectional shape having a vertical wall and upper and lower horizontal walls connected to the vertical wall by bending a sheet of metal plate. Each lengthwise end portion of the metal plate is formed with upper and lower tapering horizontal wall extension parts and an intermediate part separated from the horizontal wall extension parts by cut-out spaces. The intermediate part comprises upper and lower horizontal wall remaining parts separated from the horizontal wall extension parts by the cut-out spaces and a vertical wall extension part. The intermediate part is bent toward opening side of the U-shaped section with the horizontal wall remaining parts stacked and welded to the horizontal wall extension parts.
