A coreless seal arranged between a rotation shaft and an outer member has an inner diameter surface opposed to an outer diameter surface of the rotation shaft with a space for preventing leakage of fluid. The outer member has a flange bent inwardly. The coreless seal has an outer diameter and an inner diameter that are dimensions obtained by adding interference for an amount of thermal shrinkage as a whole dimension.

A roller bearing utilizing a roller retainer, which has an excellent assemblability in the sense that the assembly line can be automated and which eliminates various problems inherent in the full complement roller bearing The roller bearing includes an outer race having a raceway, a plurality of rollers held in rolling contact with the raceway, and a ring-shaped roller retainer having a plurality of pockets, each rollingly receiving the respective roller, spacedly defined therein in a direction circumferentially thereof to form a ladder-like structure. The roller retainer has a plurality of slits that are spacedly defined in a direction circumferential thereof so as to extend from one axial end or the other axial end of the roller retainer to a position adjacent the other axial end or one axial end.

A drawn cup needle roller bearing comprises a drawn cup having flanges formed by a bending process at both ends, rollers arranged along the inner diameter surface of the drawn cup, and a no-metal cored seal incorporated on the inner diameter side of the drawn cup. The drawn cup in which the rollers are incorporated is heat treated and the no-metal cored seal is elastically deformed and incorporated inside the drawn cup past the flange. Here, the roller has a nitrogen-enriched layer on its surface layer, and the nitrogen-enriched layer contains not less than 20% by volume of retained austenite.

A stator unit for a torque converter includes a stator, a one-way clutch mounted radially inside the stator, and thrust bearings provided on both axial sides of the one-way clutch. The one-way clutch includes an outer ring having a peripheral wall and side walls extending radially inwardly from the respective side edges of the peripheral wall and each having a flange formed at the radially inner edge thereof, an inner ring which is in sliding contact with the flanges, and sprags disposed between the inner surface of the peripheral wall and the outer surface of the inner ring. Each of the thrust bearings has a stake which is pressed into one of engaging steps formed in the radially inner surface of the stator until the bearing ring of the thrust bearing is pressed against one of the side walls and one of axial end surfaces of the inner ring, thereby retaining the component parts so as to be inseparable from the stator.

To provide a roller bearing assembly that can provide a high load bearing capacity and in which the strength of roller retainers can be increased, the roller bearing assembly includes inner and outer roller retainers () each having a plurality of circumferentially arranged pockets (), and a circular row of rollers () received in part within the pockets in the inner roller () and in part within the pockets in the outer roller (). The inner roller retainer () has pillars () each left between the neighboring pockets to retain the circular row of the rollers from radially inwardly and having an outer diameter smaller than the diameter of the pitch circle PCD of the circular row of the rollers. The outer roller retainer () has pillars () each left between the neighboring pockets to retain the circular row of the rollers from radially outwardly and having an inner diameter greater than the pitch circle diameter PCD. One of the outer and inner roller retainers is made of a metallic material while the other thereof is made of a resinous material.

To provide a roller bearing assembly, which can be assembled with a minimized number of assembling steps and without any drop-off preventing sleeve being employed and which can provide a large load bearing capacity, the roller bearing assembly includes an inner racehaving a raceway surfacedefined therein, a plurality of rollers, and a ring-shaped roller retainerhaving a plurality of pocketsdefined therein in a direction circumferentially thereof for accommodating therein the respective rollersin a circular row. The roller retaineralso has pillarseach defined between the neighboring pockets. The roller retaineris positioned on the inner racewith each of the pillarsthereof intervening between the neighboring rollersto thereby retain the rollersin position within the respective pocketsfrom a direction radially outwardly of the row of the rollers. The diameter of the circle depicted by and in touch with the pillarsis chosen to be greater than the diameter of the pitch circle PCD depicted in the circular row of the rollers

Roller bearing

A thrust roller bearing assembly includes first and second raceway members (1, 2), a plurality of rolling elements (4), and a generally plate-like annular roller retainer (3) having a plurality of pockets (7) defined therein in a circumferentially extending row. The rolling elements (4) are rollingly accommodated within the corresponding pockets (7), and each of the pockets (7) is delimited by opposite side faces (7a) and opposite end faces (7b). A plurality of projections (8, 9) are formed in each of the opposite side faces (7a) defining the respective pocket (7) in the roller retainer (3), so as to protrude into the respective pocket (7). Some (8) of the projections (8, 9) in each of the opposite side faces (7a) being formed with respective roller retaining pawls (11) positioned adjacent one principal surface of the retainer (3) while the remaining projections (9) are formed with respective roller retaining pawls (12) positioned adjacent the other principal surface of the retainer (3). All of the projections (8, 9) have respective surfaces which are used as guide faces (8a, 9a) for the rolling elements (4).
