A lighting device includes a light source emitting primary light rays that are included in a certain wavelength region, a wavelength conversion member, and a reflection layer. The wavelength conversion member has a function of converting some of the primary light rays that have passed through the wavelength conversion member into secondary light rays that are included in another wavelength region that is different from the certain wavelength region. The reflection layer has a function of reflecting light rays that reach a first surface on an opposite side from the light source. The reflection layer includes a light transmission section in a portion thereof, and light rays that reach a second surface on a light source side pass through the light transmission section to the first surface at a higher ratio than other section of the reflection layer.

A backlight is configured by a power supply switching circuit configured to switch a supply destination of a power source voltage for LED driving among a plurality of blocks, a plurality of power source lines which are provided in one-to-one correspondence with the plurality of blocks and are each connected to an upstream end of each of LED units included in a corresponding block, an LED drive circuit including the same number of turn-on control switches, which are for controlling whether to supply a current to LEDs, as LED units included in each block, and one or more discharge control circuits provided for each block. The discharge control circuit lowers a voltage level at the upstream end of each of LED snits included in a corresponding block after an end of a period in which the power source voltage is supplied to the corresponding block.

A liquid crystal display device employing a field sequential system includes: a color correction unit () configured to perform a color correction processing that changes a saturation of input gradation data representing a color of a pixel without changing a hue thereof and configured to output pixel data obtained by the color correction processing as digital gradation data (Dto D) which are data corresponding to each field; and a digital gradation data correction unit configured to perform correction that enhances a temporal change of data values of digital gradation data (Dto D) outputted from the color correction unit (). An object of the present invention is to realize a liquid crystal display device of a field sequential system which is capable of preventing occurrence of color shift and flicker. One frame period is divided into a plurality of fields, the number of which is greater than the number of lighting patterns.
