A PO&#x2014;BaO&#x2014;ZnO&#x2014;NbOtype optical glass contains 25-50 wt. % PO, 15-35 wt. % BaO, 1-25 wt. ZnO, and 3-10 wt. % NbO. The optical glass has a high refractive index (particularly preferably the refractive index nof 1.6 or more), low dispersion (an Abbe number &#x3c5;of 42 or more), a low deformation point, and improved resistance to devitrification upon molding, and is suitable for precision-mold press molding or other molding processes and also suitable for transfer of a fine structure.

Optical glass

An optical glass having a high refractive index (particularly preferably a refractive index of 1.6 or more), low dispersion (an Abbe number of 45 or more), a low deformation point, and improved resistance to devitrification upon molding, and suitable for precision-mold press molding or other molding processes and also suitable for transfer of a fine structure is provided. The optical glass contains 1.0-4.5 wt. % SiO, 30.5-50.0 wt. % BO, 1.1-8.0 wt. % LiO, 10.1-19.5 wt. % BaO, 15.5-30.0 wt. % ZnO, 3.0-15.0 wt. % YO, and 10.0-19.5 wt. % LaO.

A novel amorphous optical device contributes to economic construction of optical computers. Since economic parallel processing of signals such as image information is made possible, the novel amorphous optical device contributes also to development of optical computers capable of performing ultra-high speed and parallel processing, object recognizing apparatuses in which image optical signals are processed by using image optical signals, motion picture extracting apparatuses used for eyes of robots and object movement monitors and optical surge absorbers. An amorphous optical device which is doped with an element having a negative optical input-output characteristic to incident light, wherein the number of ions and/or atoms of the element is 1&times;10 to 2.8&times;10 per 1 m of an amorphous material, and has a negative optical input-output characteristic to incident light, an amorphous optical device which comprises amorphous optical device described above and shaped two dimensionally and controls image optical signals directly by using image optical signals and an amorphous optical device described above which uses light obtained by spectrally splitting or filtering the sunlight, thermal radiation light or light emitted from a fluorescent material by electrons emitted by electric field, or laser light as the light source are provided.

A thin film of a perovskite-type transparent potassium niobate formed on an amorphous substrate. The thin film of a perovskite-type potassium niobate has excellent transparency, can be (,) oriented, and can be used for optical devices, such as an optical waveguide, a second harmonic generating device, and an optical switching device.

A thin film of a perovskite-type transparent potassium niobate formed on an amorphous substrate. The thin film of a perovskite-type potassium niobate has excellent transparency, can be (110) oriented, and can be used for optical devices, such as an optical waveguide, a second harmonic generating device, and an optical switching device. A novel heat-generating composition comprises a molybdenum silicide as an electrically conductive powder, a glass frit, and an additive which is metal oxide powder and/or metal powder. A novel heat-generating composition comprises a combination of a molybdenum silicide and a nickel silicide as electrically conductive powder, a glass frit, and a nickel powder as an additive. The heat-generating composition is sintered in a nitrogen atmosphere or in air, to produce a heater, which has a low electrical-resistance value and a good heat-resistance.
