Image forming apparatus with controlled start-up of scanning motor

An image forming apparatus includes first through third control units, with the first for processing input image information and each of the second and third for controlling an operation of an image forming unit by communication with the first. In a first mode, in which power is supplied to the first through third control units, the first and third control units communicate via the second control unit. In a second mode, in which the first control unit does not communicate with the second control unit, the first and third control units communicate via a communication line without communicating via the second control unit. The power consumption of the second mode is lower than that of the first mode. In the second mode, the first and third control units can transmit information for transition from the second mode to the first mode to each other via the communication line.

Image forming apparatus

An image forming apparatus includes an image controller that performs processing of input image information, an engine controller into which a first processing part and a second processing part are combined, and a power supply that supplies power to the engine controller. A mode of the image forming apparatus is switchable from a first mode that is a state of image formation or a stand-by state, to a second mode whose power consumption is smaller than a power consumption of the first mode. In addition, a switch unit switches between the first mode in which power is supplied to the second processing part from the power supply. The image controller and the first processing part communicate with each other through the second processing part in the first mode, or the image controller and the first processing part communicate with each other through a communication line but not through the second processing part in the second mode. In the second mode the first processing part controls the switch unit to start supplying power to the second processing part when the image controller orders transition from the second mode to the first mode through the communication line.

A display device can be reduced in size while suppressing evenness in luminance. An image forming apparatus having such a display device incorporated therein is also provided. A driving unit drives a liquid crystal. A first member and a second member are disposed in opposition to each other with the liquid crystal interposed therebetween. The first member has a display area, and the second member has a display corresponding area corresponding to the display area of the first member and a non-display corresponding area which is different from the display corresponding area. A source of light is disposed within the non-display corresponding area of the second member. A guide member is disposed at a side of the second member opposite the first member for guiding light from the source of light.

A heater of a fixing unit of a recording apparatus is constructed by a main heater and a sub heater. When the apparatus is in a standby mode, each heater is first turned off. When a temperature of the fixing unit is equal to or lower than a heating start temperature of the sub heater, the sub heater is turned on. After that, when the temperature of the fixing unit reaches a heating stop temperature of the sub heater, the sub heater is turned off. After that, when the temperature of the fixing unit is equal to or lower than the heating start temperature, the main heater is turned on. After that, when it reaches the heating stop temperature of the main heater, the main heater is turned off. The above operations are repeated. In the recording mode, the order of the on/off periods in a control unit time of each heater is switched every period and the temperature control is executed, thereby reducing a flickering.

Control apparatus for fixing unit having plural heaters

In order to reduce a temperature change of a fixing unit and to prevent a reduction of the life of a switching device for controlling the current supply of a heater of the fixing unit and to reduce flickering noises, an on/off control of the heater is executed in every predetermined period and the order of ON and OFF states of the heater is changed every period when the fixing unit is heated.
