An additive for lubricants containing, a ZrOparticle coated with a silane coupling agent, and a dispersion medium for the ZrOparticle, wherein a BET specific surface area of the ZrOparticle coated with the silane coupling agent obtained by removing the dispersion medium is 40% or more of a BET specific surface area of the ZrOparticle before coating with the silane coupling agent.

Provided is a surface-coated barium titanate particulate for us in multilayer ceramic capacitors and for which the grain growth during high-temperature firing has been suppressed. Also provided is a production method for same. Barium titanate particulate obtained by means of a hydrothermal reaction, wherein the coated barium titanate particulate has an average particle diameter of at least 10 nm but less than 1000 nm, a Ba/Ti ratio of 0.80-1.20 inclusive, a c/a ratio of 1.001-1.010 inclusive, and a coating layer comprising at least one kind of metal compound selected from the group consisting of Mg, Ca, Ba, Mn and rare earth elements is included on the surface thereof. The coated barium titanate particulate according to the present invention is produced by means of a method including: (1) a step for obtaining barium titanate particulate by mixing an aqueous solution containing barium hydroxide and an aqueous solution containing titanium hydroxide at a Ba/Ti ratio of 0.80-1.20 inclusive, and subjecting same to a hydrothermal reaction at a temperature of 200-450&#xb0; C. inclusive, a pressure of 2.0-50 MPa inclusive, and for a reaction time of 0.1 minutes-1 hour inclusive; (2) a step for uniformly dispersing the barium titanate particulate in an aqueous solution; and (3) a step for coating the metal compound on the surface of the barium titanate particulate.

Coated barium titanate particulate and production method for same

An electrostatic image developer having little change in charge amount, no generation of fog and excellent environmental stability under all of low temperature and low humidity environment, normal temperature and normal humidity environment, and high temperature and high humidity environment is provided. Disclosed is an electrostatic image developer comprising a colored resin particle containing a binder resin and a colorant, and an external additive, wherein the external additive contains an alumina fine particle in plate-like shape subjected to a hydrophobicity-imparting treatment having a number average primary particle diameter of 20 to 120 nm and an aspect ratio of 3 to 15, and a content of the alumina fine particle is in the range from 0.05 to 1 part by mass with respect to 100 parts by mass of the colored resin particle.

This invention provides an Mg-based ferrite having a high dielectric breakdown voltage and a saturation magnetization suitable for electrophotographic development, a carrier containing the ferrite, and an electrophotographic developer containing the carrier. The Mg-based ferrite material of this invention comprises Li, Na, K, Rb, Cs, Ca, Sr, Ba, Y, La, Ti, Zr, Hf, V, Nb, Ta, Al, Ga, Si, Ge, P, Sb, Bi or a combination thereof. The Mg-based ferrite material has a saturation magnetization of 30 to 80 emu/g, and a dielectric breakdown voltage of 1.5 to 5.0 kV. The Mg-based ferrite material can realize high image quality, and be in compliance with environmental regulations.

This invention provides an Mg-based ferrite carrier composed of an environment-friendly material meeting environmental regulations, and an electrophotographic developer comprising the carrier. The carrier and the developer of this invention realize high image quality and improved gradation properties. This invention also provides a method for producing the Mg-based ferrite material having a saturation magnetization of from 30 to 80 emu/g and a dielectric breakdown voltage of from 1.0 to 5.0 kV, and having the composition of the formula (1). The above properties are obtained by controlling conditions of sintering and heating treatments. CaaMgbFecOd (1) wherein a, b, and c satisfy 0.10 b/(b+c/2) 0.85 and 0 R(Ca) 0.10; R(Ca) is expressed as R(Ca)=a&#x2dc;Fw(CaO)/(a&#x2dc;Fw(CaO)+b&#x2dc;Fw(MgO)+(c/2)&#x2dc;Fw(Fc2O3)) (Fw(A): formula weight of A j; and d is determined by oxidation numbers of Ca, Mg and Fe.
