Provided is a liquid crystal display device including: a liquid crystal panel; and a control circuit. The liquid crystal panel sequentially includes an active matrix substrate, a first alignment film, a liquid crystal layer containing liquid crystal molecules having a negative anisotropy of dielectric constant, a second alignment film aligning the liquid crystal molecules at an angle of 10&#xb0; or greater and 30&#xb0; or smaller, and a counter substrate. Liquid crystal display device having multiple display modes

Provided is a liquid crystal display device including: a liquid crystal panel including display units for displaying an image using a veil-view function; and a control circuit. The display units each include a pair of sub-pixels including a first sub-pixel and a second sub-pixel. The liquid crystal panel sequentially includes an active matrix substrate, a first alignment film, a liquid crystal layer containing liquid crystal molecules, a second alignment film, and a counter substrate. The active matrix substrate includes first and second electrodes that are stacked via a first insulating layer or that face each other on the first substrate. At least one of the first or second electrode is disposed for each first sub-pixel and for each second sub-pixel. The counter substrate includes a third electrode. A liquid crystal display device includes: a liquid crystal panel including an active matrix substrate, a liquid crystal layer, and a color filter substrate in a stated order, the active matrix substrate including a first substrate, and a first electrode and second electrodes stacked with an insulating layer in between, the second electrodes arranged in the respective sub-pixels, the color filter substrate including a second substrate, a color filter, and a third electrode, either the first electrode or the second electrodes arranged with electrical connection over the sub-pixels, each of the sub-pixels provided with an optical opening, the third electrode not superimposed with at least a portion of each of the optical openings in a plan view and arranged with electrical connection, a control circuit configured to switch between application of alternating voltage and application of constant voltage to the third electrode.

A display device, to provide compensation for change in color level due to different viewing directions of a display surface and compensation for other optical characteristics of the display surface in a compatible manner, includes a light-emitting element layer including a light-emitting layer including a light-emitting element, a first electrode disposed below the light-emitting layer, and a second electrode disposed above the light-emitting layer, wherein an optical compensation layer is disposed above the light-emitting element layer, the optical compensation layer being configured to compensate for prevention of external light reflection on a display surface and compensate for change in color level of the display surface due to different viewing directions of the display surface.

Display device, method for producing display device, and apparatus for producing display device

A liquid crystal display device of the present invention includes: a first substrate including a pair of counter electrodes; a second substrate including a pixel electrode and a common electrode; and a liquid crystal layer that includes liquid crystal molecules aligned horizontally with the substrates. The liquid crystal display device is configured to perform display in any of multiple display modes. The multiple display modes include: a first display mode of performing display in a first state where an alternating-current voltage is applied at a first frequency between the pair of counter electrodes; and a second display mode of performing display in at least one of a second state where no voltage is applied between the pair of counter electrodes, or a third state where an alternating-current voltage is applied at a second frequency that is higher than the first frequency between the pair of counter electrodes.

A liquid crystal display device is manufactured at a low cost. In the liquid crystal display device, three sub-pixel electrodes are connected by inter-electrode connection portions to form one pixel electrode. One TFT is connected to the pixel electrode. A screen of a liquid crystal display panel is divided into n (n&#x2265;2) of areas. Gate signal lines G of each divided area are scanned simultaneously one line at a time in each divided area. A backlight device emits light after completion of the scanning of each divided area.

Liquid crystal display device with time-division driving

A technique is provided that reduces dullness of a potential provided to a line such as gate line on an active-matrix substrate to enable driving the line at high speed and, at the same time, reduces the size of the picture frame region. On an active-matrix substrate () are provided gate lines (G) and source lines. On the active-matrix substrate () are further provided: gate drivers () each including a plurality of switching elements, at least one of which is located in a pixel region, for supplying a scan signal to a gate line (G); and lines (L) each for supplying a control signal to the associated gate driver (). A control signal is supplied by a display control circuit () located outside the display region to the gate drivers () via the lines (L). In response to a control signal supplied, each gate driver () drives the gate line (G) to which it is connected.

Active-matrix substrate, display panel and display device including the same

A liquid crystal display device includes sub-pixel electrodes respectively provided to three sub-pixels, and an interelectrode connection portion that connects sub-pixel electrodes adjacent to each other among the sub-pixel electrodes. The interelectrode connection portion is provided in a position where boundaries of liquid crystal alignment directions of sub-pixels adjacent to each other are connected.

[Object] To provide technology that enables the characteristics of a display device to be appropriately evaluated. [Solution] Values Xn, Yn, and Zn are set based on tristimulus values obtained by measuring, by the optical measuring device, a first display state where white is displayed to fill a screen of the display device. Tristimulus values obtained by measuring a second display state by the optical measuring device are set as values X, Y, and Z. In the second display state, a color including at least one of red, green, blue, white, and black is displayed in at least part of the screen of the display device. Values L*, a*, and b* are calculated by transforming the values Xn, Yn, and Zn and the values X, Y, and Z. A color volume of a color space formed from the values L*, a*, and b* is calculated. The value Yn in the first display state and the color volume are output.

Characterization system for evaluating characteristics of display device

The optical device () includes a first substrate (), a second substrate (), and an optical layer (). The first substrate includes a first electrode () and a second electrode () configured to be provided with mutually different electrical potentials within a pixel. The optical layer may include a medium () and a plurality of shape-anisotropic particles () dispersed in the medium. At least one of the first electrode and the second electrode may include a plurality of comb teeth portions () arranged at predetermined intervals along the first direction (D). When an electric potential difference is applied between the first electrode and the second electrode, the pixel may be configured to have an electrical field distribution in which a strong electric field region having a stronger field intensity than another region is periodically formed parallel to the surface of the optical layer along a second direction (D) orthogonal to the first direction.

Optical device

The present invention provides a mirror display that has improved design aesthetics and makes it possible to sufficiently improve visibility in mirror mode in dark environments. The mirror display according to the present invention includes a half mirror plate having a half mirror layer, a display device, a case, and an auxiliary illumination unit that includes an auxiliary light source. The case supports at least the half mirror plate and the display device and includes an outer frame that covers an edge of a front surface of the half mirror plate when viewed in a plan view from a viewing side. The display device is arranged on a rear side of the half mirror plate. The auxiliary light source is arranged on the rear side of the half mirror plate, the display device, or the outer frame. The auxiliary illumination unit is controlled separately from the display device and emits light towards the viewing side when the mirror display is in mirror mode. As measured on the viewing side, a brightness of the light emitted from the auxiliary illumination unit is greater than a brightness of the display device when the display device is in a white display state.

Mirror display

A production control system for liquid crystal panels includes a general design circuit board producing section configured to produce general design circuit boards, a frame processing section configured to process frames of the general design circuit boards based on an outline of the liquid crystal panels in an order from a customer, a customer terminal, a processor, and information and communication lines. At least the outline of the liquid crystal panels and an order quantity are input to the customer terminal by the customer. The processor is configured to control the general design circuit board producing section to produce the general design circuit boards and the frame processing section to process the frames of the general design circuit boards for an order quantity based on the outline of the display panels and the order quantity entered in the customer terminal.

Display panel production control system and method of controlling display panel production

A method of driving a display device including a display panel that includes a color filter board is provided. The color filter board includes a light blocking section formed in a grid and color sections that are formed in areas surrounded by a pattern of the light blocking section in different colors from area to area. The color sections form display pixels on a combination basis. The display panel includes a light blocking area in at least a section of an edge along an outline of the display panel. The method includes setting the color sections that do not form the display pixels among the color sections adjacent to the light blocking area in a plan view of the display panel constantly in the black state.
