Metal plate and metal guide plate are in contact with each other and electrically connected. Upon a build-up of pressure within the battery, the insulating resin sheet expands and ruptures, whereby a narrow part provided in the metal thin sheet positioned above the insulating resin sheet breaks, thus cutting supply of electric current.

A metal reinforcing plate is welded in place close to the opening on the inside of the battery case, and a plastic insulation gasket and a sealing member provided with an anti-explosion mechanism or the like are sequentially mounted on the metal reinforcing plate. By this arrangement, higher battery capacity can be realized by eliminating the waste of space because it is unnecessary to form a conventional indentation around the upper wall of a battery case. In a cassette loading device of a compact, lightweight, thin type for use in a video tape player or the like, an opening lever is pivotally mounted on a stand, and is engaged in a cam groove with a top plate. With this arrangement, the opening lever is accommodated within a longitudinal dimension of a cassette, and therefore the loading device in the direction of the longitudinal dimension of the cassette can be greatly reduced. The cassette is moved through the pivotal movement of the top plate and arms, and with this arrangement operating switches and so on can be easily mounted on a plane of projection of the top plate. Therefore, the positional stability of the cassette loading device can be achieved, and the number of component parts can be reduced, thereby achieving a compact, lightweight construction of the cassette loading device.

A cassette loading device is compact, lightweight, thin and used in a video tape player or the like. An opening lever is pivotally mounted on a stand, and is engaged in a cam groove with a top plate. With this arrangement, the opening lever is accommodated within a longitudinal dimension of a cassette, and therefore the loading device in the direction of the longitudinal dimension of the cassette can be greatly reduced. The cassette is moved through the pivotal movement of the top plate and arms, and with this arrangement operating switches and so on can be easily mounted on a plane of projection of the top plate. Therefore, the positional stability of the cassette loading device can be achieved, and the number of component parts can be reduced, thereby achieving a compact, lightweight construction of the cassette loading device.

A tape driving mechanism for a magnetic recording apparatus has a capstan rotated to advance a magnetic tape by pinching the magnetic tape between the capstan and a pinch roller. The pinch roller is pressed onto the magnetic tape against the capstan. The capstan surface is coated with a diamond-like carbon film which is smooth and highly wear-resistant. The difference between the tangential speed of the capstan and the tape transfer speed is almost zero. Thus, the state of contact is static. A static frictional coefficient between the diamond-like carbon film of the capstan and the magnetic tape is almost equal to twice the static frictional coefficient between the metal surface of the capstan and the magnetic tape in the conventional tape driving mechanism. The tape driving force thus remains sufficient even if the pressure exerted by the pinch roller is reduced to half the value employed in the conventional tape driving mechanism.
