In an anode-side assembling process, a first end of a glass tube is fused to a rearward end of an electrode bar secured to an anode-side lead to produce a primary sealed product. In a cathode-side assembling process, a ring-shaped cathode is secured by caulking to a forward end portion of an electrode bar secured to a forward end of a cathode-side lead to produce a cathode member. In an assembling process, a second end of the glass tube of the primary sealed product is fused to a rearward end of the electrode bar secured to the cathode-side lead of the cathode member to produce a xenon discharge tube. A trigger electrode, which is composed of a transparent conductive film, is formed on a surface of the glass tube so that the light-transmissive sealed tube-coating ratio specified by the transparent conductive film is within a range of 5 to 30%.

A xenon electronic flash tube has a transparent glass tube body. Xe gas is enclosed in the tube body. An anode is projected inside the tube body. A cathode, inside the tube body, is projected toward the anode, and includes base metal material and a Cs compound having a characteristic of emitting electrons, such as Cs.sub.2 Ta.sub.2 O.sub.6.

A method and apparatus for manufacturing a magnetic recording medium at high efficiency. A flexible web is passed around first and second cooling cans. The web is reversed between the two cans so that the same surface of the web is directed to the outside on both cans. A single evaporation source produces an evaporated stream of magnetic film forming material which impinges on the web as it passes around both cans, thereby to form two films of the evaporated magnetic material on the same surface of the web.

Method and apparatus for manufacturing magnetic recording medium

A continuous polymeric substrate for a magnetic recording medium, on which magnetic material is deposited during which the end portions of both sides of the substrate is masked, is wound up on a wind-up roll in a vacuum atmosphere while the substrate is fluctuated in a width direction by a fluctuating width ranging from 0.2 mm to 40 mm in a fluctuating cycle ranging from 10 seconds to 1000 seconds.

Method of winding up a magnetic recording medium

A plural-cathode sputtering apparatus capable of producing mixed thin films having a period of stratification as small as 10 .ANG. without putting an undue load on the power supplies. Two different types of targets are provided on a cathode side, and a substrate onto which sputtering is performed is provided on the anode side. Magnetic field generators produce magnetic fields substantially perpendicularly intersecting the electric fields generated between the plate and the targets near and front sides of the targets. The magnetic field generators are each composed of main magnets and electromagnets, which may be combined with the main magnets. Electrical currents are produced for exciting the electromagnets which are controlled in such a manner as to change the magnetic intensity of the magnetic fields and to thereby regulate the sputtering discharge.

Sputtering apparatus

An analysis material sheet is disclosed which is comprised of layers of material with strong adhesion for one another. The sheet includes a water-impermeable support having provided directly or indirectly thereon a layer of fabric. The fabric contains a hydrophobic organic polymer fiber and is physically activated on at least one surface thereof, with the physically activated surface being adhered directly or indirectly to the support. A reagent layer can be provided directly or indirectly on the liquid sample-spreading layer of fabric. By utilizing a fabric containing a hydrophobic organic polymer fiber, body fluids to be analyzed can be quickly and uniformly spread and by utilizing the physically activated surface of the fabric, strong adhesion between the layers can be obtained.

An apparatus for detecting and measuring the area of defects in a sheet or rolled material comprises a defect detection section which rapidly scans the whole area of the material to locate the positions of defects and a defect size measuring section which is moved directly to each of the located positions to measure the area of the defect.

In a process for producing vacuum deposition films which comprises providing a vacuum deposition film composed of an alloy or an intermetallic compound of two or more components having different vapor pressures at a specified temperature on a base, the improvement which comprises charging the component having the lower vapor pressure at said temperature to an evaporation source in a vacuum evaporation chamber in such an amount that the evaporation amount thereof per unit time does not substantially vary, and carrying out vacuum evaporation while continuously feeding a component having a higher vapor pressure at said temperature into said evaporation source in an amount corresponding to the evaporation amount thereof per unit time.

A process for producing a sheet-like material having a vapor-deposited metallic layer thereon, which comprises vapor depositing a layer of a metal, a layer of different metals in contact with each other, a layer of a metal alloy, a layer of a metal and a metal compound in contact with each other or a layer of a metal compound as the metallic layer on a support of a polymeric material having a glass transition temperature of at least about 0.degree. C., a composite of said polymeric material and paper, woven or non-woven cloth, or paper using at least one member selected from the group consisting of metals, metal alloys and metal compounds as an evaporating material in the vapor depositing, and then forming a layer of an organic material on the metallic layer by vapor deposition using an evaporable organic material as an evaporating material in the vapor depositing.
