Provided is a polyamide composition comprising 100 parts by weight of (A) a polyamide having dicarboxylic acid units containing 60 to 100 mol % of terephthalic acid units, and diamine units containing 60 to 100 mol % of 1,9-nonanediamine units and/or 2-methyl-1,8-octanediamine units, and 5 to 100 parts by weight of (B) a titanium oxide with an average particle size of 0.1 to 0.5 &#x3bc;m. The polyamide composition shows excellent heat resistance enough to withstand the SMT process, and gives a molded article with excellent whiteness and surface-reflectance.

Polyamide composition

A polyamide composition comprising 100 parts by weight of (A) a semiaromatic polyamide having dicarboxylic acid units mainly composed of aromatic dicarboxylic acid units and diamine units mainly composed of aliphatic diamine units having 4 to 14 carbon atoms and containing not more than 15 &#x3bc;eq/g of terminal amino groups; and 0.01 to 5 parts by weight of (B) a copper compound.

Polyamide resin composition

The polyamide resin composition of the present invention comprises 100 parts by weight of a polyamide resin (A) having dicarboxylic acid units (a) comprising from 60 to 100 mol % of terephthalic acid repeat units and diamine units (b) comprising from 60 to 100 mol % of C aliphatic alkylenediamine repeat units, and from 1 to 100 parts by weight of a polybromostyrene (B), comprising from 0.5 to 100% by weight of a polybromostyrene having an epoxy group. Molded articles prepared from the polyamide resin composition of the present invention have good flame retardancy, good chemical resistance, good surface appearance and good blistering resistance.

A method for producing polyamides, and to a method for producing primary polycondensates which are intermediates for polyamide production. More precisely, the invention relates to a method for producing primary polycondensates, which comprises a step of polycondensing a dicarboxylic acid component having a terephthalic acid content of from 60 to 100 mol % and a diamine component in which the amount of 1,9-nonanediamine and/or 2-methyl-1,8-octanediamine falls between 60 and 100 mol %, in the presence of water of being from 15 to 35% by weight, at a reaction temperature falling between 250.degree. C. and 280.degree. C. and under a reaction pressure (P) that satisfies the following formula (1):

Method for producing polyamides

A polyamide (9-T polyamide) comprising (a) 60 to 100 mole of terephthalic acid and (b) a diamine component comprising 60 to 100 mole % of 1,9-nonanediamine, said polyamide having an intrinsic viscosity �.eta.! as determined by measurement in concentrated sulfuric acid at 30.degree. C. of 0.6 to 2.0 dl/g and having at least 10% of terminal groups thereof blocked. Another polyamide (9M-T polyamide) comprises a dicarboxylic acid component (a) comprising 60 to 100 mole % of terephthalic acid and a diamine component (b) comprising 60 to 100 mole % of 1,9-nonanediamine and 2-methyl-1,8octanediamine, the molar ratio between said 1,9 nonanediamine and said 2-methyl-1,8-octanediamine being in a range of 60:40 to 99:1, said polyamide having an intrinsic viscosity �.eta.! as determined by measurement in concentrated sulfuric acid at 30.degree. C. of 0.4 to 3.0 dl/g. These polyamides have excellent moldability, as well as excellent hot water resistance, surface neatness, heat resistance, mechanical characteristics, low-water-absorption property and chemical resistance. Polyamide compositions comprising the 9-T polyamide or 9M-T polyamide and a filler are suitably used as engineering plastics.

Polyamide and polyamide composition

Polyhydric alcohols can be produced in high selectivity from substituted 1,3-dioxanes containing at least one hydroxyalkyl group by heating, in the presence of water, said 1,3-dioxane or mixtures thereof in contact with boric acid, boric acid anhydride or a boron-containing compound capable of forming boric acid under the reaction conditions and recovering the polyhydric alcohols corresponding to said 1,3-dioxanes.

Process for the production of polyhydric alcohols

The 3-methyl-3-butene-1-ol contained in the oily mixture obtained in the production of isoprene by the reaction of isobutene and formaldehyde through the intermediate 4,4-dimethyl-1,3-dioxane can be isolated by adding boric acid to said mixture to form the boric acid ester of 3-methyl-3-butene-1-ol and recovering the higher boiling fraction having a boiling point of above 160.degree.C.
