A display method of a plasma display apparatus to which primary color video signals are inputted and which carries out color display by letting phosphors for primary colors emit light is provided. The display method displays the primary color video signals by changing a gray level of an output primary color video signal in accordance with a gray level of an input primary color video signal. When each gray level of the inputted primary color video signals changes from a first value to a second value which is larger than the first value, a gray level of a primary color video signal for a phosphor having the largest influence of luminance saturation properties among the phosphors is increased relative to a gray level of the other primary color video signal.

A display apparatus, which displays a color image by controlling the number of emissions or the intensity thereof in accordance with primary color video signals input thereto, has a detection portion and a white balance correction portion. The detection portion is used to detect the number of emissions or the intensity, and the white balance correction portion is used to correct white balance by adjusting the amplitudes of the primary color video signals in accordance with the detected number of emissions or the detected intensity. Therefore, correct white balance can be maintained regardless of the number of emissions or the intensity of emission.

A problem is to be solved that there is to be provided a plasma display device capable of generating driving signals with less variation in delay time and without carrying out any phase adjustment. There is provided a plasma display device including; a first display electrode; a second display electrode adapted to cause a discharge to occur between the first display electrode and the second display electrode; a first display electrode drive circuit for applying a discharge voltage to the first display electrode; and a second display electrode drive circuit for applying a discharge voltage to the second display electrode. The first display electrode drive circuit has a first output element for supplying a first electric potential to the first display electrode in accordance with a first input signal which is inputted by using a transformer.

The plasma display device includes connecting means for connecting the X/Y electrodes of the plasma display panel and the X/Y electrode drive circuits. In the X electrode pattern and the Y electrode pattern on the printed board in the connecting means, a current path connecting the center electrodes of the plasma display panel and the X electrode drive circuit or Y electrode drive circuit is longer than a current path connecting the peripheral electrodes and the X electrode drive circuit or Y electrode drive circuit. The current paths at the plasma display panel side are in the U-shape folded in the upper part and the lower part in the periphery of the plasma display panel, respectively. Also, the current paths are first connected to the upper or lower electrodes, and then sequentially connected to the center electrodes via the upper part and the lower part.

A low-cost capacitive load drive circuit, in which a reference voltage, a first voltage, and a second voltage are supplied to a capacitive load, and a plasma display apparatus using it, have been disclosed. The capacitive load drive circuit comprises a reference voltage switch the breakdown voltage of which is properly adjusted, a first switch, a reference voltage phase adjusting circuit, and a first phase adjusting circuit, and malfunctions due to the difference in switching characteristics can be prevented from occurring even when devices of different breakdown voltages are used.

A plasma display device is provided which includes a plurality of X electrodes, a plurality of Y electrodes arranged adjacent to the plurality of X electrodes for causing sustain discharges between the plurality of X electrodes and the plurality of Y electrodes, an X electrode drive circuit for applying a sustain discharge voltage to the plurality of X electrodes, and a Y electrode drive circuit for applying a sustain discharge voltage to the plurality of Y electrodes. The X electrode drive circuit and the Y electrode drive circuit have a first sustain drive mode in which discharge pulses to predetermined adjacent electrodes rise or fall in the same direction at the same time and a second sustain drive mode in which discharge pulses to all adjacent electrodes rise or fall at different timings.

In a plasma display device having a reduced discharge-current-induced voltage fluctuation and an expanded drive margin and being successful in preventing the display characteristics from being degraded, a Y-electrode drive circuit and an X-electrode drive circuit for supplying a drive voltage to the capacitance which represents a display cell are configured using parallel circuits in which first switching elements having a high-speed-switching performance and second switching elements having a low-saturation-voltage performance are connected in parallel, so that the second switching elements having the low-saturation-voltage performance are turned on at least during a period that discharge current flows therebetween.

An ALIS system PDP apparatus in which a reduction in the variation in luminance due to ringing has been reduced is disclosed. In an ALIS system PDP apparatus, X (first) electrodes and Y (second) electrodes are arranged in such a way that the X electrodes and the Y electrodes, whose path length, which is the length of each of the signal paths of a sustain discharge pulse from the X and Y electrode to sustain drive circuits, is longer or shorter than that of the peripheral X and Y electrodes, do not exist densely. Specifically, the order of arrangement of the odd and even X sustain drive circuits is reversed to that of odd and even Y sustain drive circuits.

A display device that can prevent the thermal destruction and screen burn-in caused by display patterns has been disclosed. In this device, the display luminance is determined by the number of light emissions, and there are provided a sustain frequency control section that controls the sustain frequency, a load ratio calculation section that calculates the load ratio for each frame of display data, plural counters, a load ratio counter control section that controls so as to increase the counts of the counters corresponding to the load ratio level calculated by the load ratio calculation section, and a first judgment section that outputs a first control signal when any of the counts exceeds a first reference value, wherein the sustain frequency control section decreases the sustain frequency according to the first control signal.

A pre-drive circuit having low deviation of timing of a high level and a low level output voltages is disclosed. A plurality of drive systems are comprised, each having an input amplifier circuits for amplifying input voltages input to input voltage terminals, high level shift circuits for shifting signal levels output from the input amplifier circuits, and output amplifier circuits for amplifying shift signals output from the high level shift circuits, and each drive system has the same constitution.

In the driving method to drive, using the interlacing method, a dot matrix type AC plasma display panel comprising display electrodes that are arranged adjacently, extend in the same direction, and execute a light-emitting action in each display cell, and a rib that separates individual display cells, wherein a display line is formed between every pair of the display electrodes, the data in a line of the interlaced signal is displayed simultaneously in two neighboring lines and the centers of display are shifted in the odd field and the even field.
