A modifier for resin has an average particle size of 20 &#x3bc;m or more, wherein particles having an average particle size of 10 &#x3bc;m or less account for less than 30% by mass of the modifier, and particles having an average particle size of 10 &#x3bc;m or less account for 30% by mass or more of the modifier after irradiating the modifier with ultrasonic wave of 40 W for 5 minutes. Also a resin composition comprises 1 to 40% by mass of the modifier for resin and 99 to 60% by mass (the total amount of both components is 100% by mass) of a thermoplastic resin or a curable resin, and a molded article is produced by molding the same.

A synthetic latex is prepared by charging a portion of water and a monomer as raw materials in a reactor in a ratio of monomer/water, at which a maximum ultimate pressure in said reactor that is attained if an initial composition in said reactor before the initiation of the polymerization is polymerized from a polymerization initiation temperature in an insulated state, is within a practical proof pressure of said reactor; initiating the polymerization; adding dropwise the remainder of said water and said monomer during the polymerization, continuously or intermittently, and performing the emulsion polymerization. As a result, the emulsion polymerization can be stably performed while controlling the temperature and pressure in said reactor in a runaway reaction in all processes of the method of preparing the synthetic latex, thus making it possible to improve the productivity.

A process for production of diene rubber polymers wherein, during production of a diene rubber polymer by emulsion polymerization, the polymerization is initiated using a portion of the starting material and the polymerization is continued with either continuous or intermittent dropwise addition of the remainder of the starting material during the polymerization, and wherein at least &frac12; of the total amount of the water and of the monomer in the starting material used is added dropwise during the polymerization, and the temperature of the dropwise added water and monomer is kept to at least 20&deg; C. below the polymerization temperature. C. as a core, and an organic polymer having a refractive index lower than the refractive index of the core as a clad layer, said plastic optical fiber having the characteristic that the light transmission loss measured at 655 nm is not more than 500 dB/km.

A reinforced resin composition which comprises 50-95% by weight of polyglutarimide resin and 5-50% by weight of carbon fibers. Disclosed is an improved light transmitting fiber comprising a transparent inorganic substance or organic polymeric material as a core component and a methacrylate polymer as a cladding component. The methacrylate polymer is a methacrylimide-containing fluoroalkyl methacrylate polymer comprising (A) 2 to 98 weight % of methacrylimide units of formula (I): ##STR1## wherein R represents a hydrogen atom or a hydrocarbon group having 1 to 20 carbon atoms, (B) 98 to 2 weight % of structural units derived from a fluoroalkyl methacrylate monomer, and (C) 0 to 50 weight % of structural units derived from a monomer copolymerizable with the monomer (B).

A methacrylate resin composition comprising a methacrylate resin containing methacrylimide units of the following formula: ##STR1## wherein R is a hydrogen atom or an aliphatic, alicyclic or aromatic hydrocarbon group having from 1 to 20 carbon atoms, and having a yellowness index (YIs) of at most 3 as measured in the form of a solution of the heated resin composition and a total light transmittance of from 89 to 95%.
