Provided is a color filter for reflection-type liquid crystal display devices, which comprises a light-reflecting layer a transparent electrode and a colorant layer with electroconductive grains therein, as laminated in that order on a transparent or opaque substrate Also provided is a reflection-type liquid crystal display device comprising the color filter, in which a substrate having a transparent electrode formed thereon is so combined with the color filter that the transparent electrode faces the light input side of the color filter via a liquid crystal layer existing therebetween. With that constitution, the device enjoys a broad angle of visibility and is not troubled by color drift (color mixing) The device can produce light images in light conditions.

Color filter for reflection liquid crystal display and reflection liquid crystal display comprising the same

A micelle dispersion containing hydrophobic particles, conductive particles and a surfactant of a ferrocene derivative dispersed in an aqueous medium. The surfactant of a ferrocene derivative in an equilibrium concentration contains an oxidized compound in a concentration of 40 &mgr;g/ml or less and a reduced compound in a concentration of 50 to 300 &mgr;g/ml. A process for producing a micelle dispersion including dispersing hydrophobic particles, conductive particles and a surfactant of a ferrocene derivative in an aqueous medium, where an oxidized compound in the surfactant of a ferrocene derivative is removed with at least one of an ion exchange resin and a reducing agent. A color filter can be produced in excellent yield without color overlapping by using the micelle dispersion and the process provides the micelle dispersion.

A process for producing color filters, which comprises dispersing or dissolving pigments and the like having spectral properties in three primary colors, and a structure reinforcing resin in an aqueous medium, in the presence of a surfactant comprising a ferrocene compound, to prepare micelle solutions of dispersions in each color, and dipping the patterned electroconductive transparent substrate to be subjected to electrolytic treatment in each color, and thus forming a color-separated filter on the substrate. The color filter produced according to the above process can be utilized for display elements of filters, such as liquid crystal display devices, electrochromic display devices, latitude display devices, plasma display panels, spectroscopic devices, solid-state photographic devices and dimmers.

Process for producing color filter

Disclosed is a process for producing thin films, which comprises dispersing or dissolving inorganic substance or hydrophobic organic substance in an aqueous medium in the presence of a surfactant having HLB value of 10 to 20, to obtain micelle solution or dispersion, dipping a semiconductive or photoconductive substrate into said micelle solution or dispersion, applying an electric potential on said substrate if necessary, and irradiating lights on the contact interface of said mecelle solution or dispersion and said substrate, and thus forming thin films of said inorganic substance or hydrophobic inorganic substance on said substrate. Also disclosed is a process for producing color filters having excellent properties, which comprises forming color separation filter on the substrate according to the above-mentioned process, by the use of pigments or dyes in three primary colors of red, green, and blue.
