An internal combustion engine with a turbocharger includes a catalyst, downstream of a turbine, in an exhaust passage. The internal combustion engine includes a waste gate, and a waste gate valve. The internal combustion engine further includes a flow-adjusting member or a flow-adjusting mechanism. The flow-adjusting member disperses a flow of exhaust gas from the waste gate when the opening degree of the waste gate valve is small and concentrates the flow when the opening degree of the waste gate valve is large. The flow-adjusting mechanism switches between a dispersed state in which the flow is dispersed and a concentrate state in which the flow is concentrated.

Internal combustion engine with turbocharger

An ignition apparatus for internal combustion engines is provided. The ignition apparatus is equipped with an ECU. The ECU monitors a path length of a discharge of a spark for a period of time in which a second circuit delivers or inputs energy in the form of a threshold value determination. When the path length has become too short, the ECU determines that ignition is expected to be delayed and then selects a special mode to control the delay of the ignition. The ECU increase a target value of an energy input amount. This enables the delay of ignition resulting from a short extension of the path length to be minimized. The ignition apparatus equipped with the second circuit to continue the discharge of sparks is, thus, capable of reducing a variation in ignition without the need for uniformly increasing the energy input amount.

An ignition device includes a center electrode, a center dielectric covering the center electrode, a ground electrode disposed so as to form a discharge space with the center dielectric, and a high energy source for applying an AC voltage between the center electrode and the ground electrode to generate a streamer discharge. A distal end portion of the center electrode projects beyond a distal end of the ground electrode to an inside of the combustion chamber of an internal combustion engine to make a dielectric discharge portion. The ground electrode is formed with an airflow inlet and en airflow outlet at a lateral portion thereof for enabling an in-cylinder airflow to be introduced into the discharge space. A distal end portion of the ground electrode projects radially inward to make a ground electrode projecting portion so that a discharge space narrow portion is formed with the dielectric discharge portion.

Ignition device

A fuel supply system for an internal combustion engine includes a heat exchanger that has a heat exchanging wall between a liquefied fuel passage and an engine coolant passage. Heated and vaporized fuel flowing out from the liquefied fuel passage of the heat exchanger is supplied to the internal combustion engine. A flow rate of liquefied fuel supplied to the liquefied fuel passage of the heat exchanger is set. A flow rate of engine coolant supplied to the engine coolant passage of the heat exchanger is determined on the basis of a temperature of the engine coolant supplied to the engine coolant passage of the heat exchanger such that nucleate boiling or transition boiling of the liquefied fuel in the set flow rate occurs near a boundary between nucleate boiling and transition boiling in the liquefied fuel passage.
