The present invention disclosed is an aluminum alloy plate for super plastic molding capable of cold pre-molding before super plastic molding. The alloy plate comprises Mg at from 2.0 to 8.0% (weight %, the same shall apply hereinafter) Be at from 0.0001 to 0.01%, at least one of Mn at from 0.3 to 2.5%, Cr at from 0.1 to 0.5%, Zr at from 0.1 to 0.5% and V at from 0.1 to 0.5%. Additionally, the alloy plate may comprise an Fe amount and an Si amount each within a range of 0.0 to 0.2%; amounts of Na and Ca within ranges of 3 ppm or less and 5 ppm or less, respectively; while the remainder of the alloy plate consists of Al and inevitable impurities. The resulting alloy plate a crystalline structure is a non-recrystallized crystal structure; the 90&deg; critical bending radius is 7.5 times the plate thickness or less; and the yield strength ratio before and after the final annealing is 70% or more. An integral cast-iron connecting rod blank having a smaller-diameter end, a shank, and a larger-diameter end with a crank opening is set on an inclined base, and the tip end of a laser beam applying device is positioned in the larger-diameter end. While a YAG laser beam from the laser beam applying device is being applied to diametrically opposite inner central wall regions of the larger-diameter end, the laser beam applying device is moved to form notches transversely in the respective inner central wall regions. Two spreading elements are placed in the crank opening, and then a tapered wedge is inserted downwardly between the spreading elements. A downward impact point load is applied to a load bearing surface of the wedge thereby to apply spreading forces to the larger-diameter end. A crack starting radially outwardly from the notches is developed in the larger-diameter end, dividing the larger-diameter end into a saddle and a cap. Mating surfaces of the saddle and the cap have interfitting surface irregularities which prevent the saddle and the cap from being combined in wrong orientations. Before the larger-diameter end is split open, the crank opening is finished for roundness while the larger-diameter end is being subjected to the same load as a fastening load by which the saddle and the cap will be fastened by bolts.

According to the present invention, an aluminum alloy containing silicon is anodized using an electrolyte including a compound containing an anion having complexing capability such as sodium hydrogenphosphate or tribasic sodium phosphate, a salt of an organic acid containing an oxyacid anion such as sodium citrate or sodium tartrate or an alcohol such as sorbitol, and a halide such as potassium fluoride or sodium fluoride. The use of such an electrolyte results in a reduced amount of silicon being incorporated in the anodic oxide film. When the resulting oxide film is subjected to an electrodeposition treatment such as electroplating or electrolytic coloring, wasteful consumption of electrodeposition current can be inhibited. An aluminum alloy decorative cover is produced by buffing the surface of an aluminum alloy containing silicon, forming the anodized film on the buffed surface, and subjecting the anodized film to sequential nickel and chromium plating. The anodizing process of the invention for anodizing an aluminum alloy containing silicon is used to anodize a spiral scroll member of a compressor and the inner circumferential surface of the cylinder of a cylinder block.

The composition of a hard-facing welding material to be overlaid onto a cast iron base metal followed by a supercooling treatment for hardening must lie above a line LA in a Schaeffler's structure diagram which is represented by a Cr equivalent and a Ni equivalent. On the other hand, if the base metal is preheated, the carbon precipitation line will be at the Ni equivalent of 34 (LC1), and the Cr equivalent will thus be above 4. However, if the Cr equivalent is above 4, there will occur cracks after welding (examples in which cracks occurred are shown by square marks represented by a in FIG. 1). As a solution, the carbon precipitation line was raised up to the Ni equivalent of 38 without preheating the base metal, and the Cr equivalent of the welding material was made to be 4 or less.

A welding material for hard-facing which is to be hardened by a supercooling treatment after overlaying onto a cast iron base metal has a basic component composition which meets, in an overlaid condition, both a first condition and a second condition. The first condition is that a nickel (Ni) equivalent and a chromium (Cr) equivalent fall within that region to be defined in Schaeffler's structure diagram in which a difference in hardness before and after the supercooling treatment is a predetermined value or above. The second condition is that a starting temperature of martensitic transformation is a predetermined temperature or below. The components of the welding material are determined by defining in Schaeffler's structure diagram a region in which a difference in hardness before and after the supercooling treatment becomes a predetermined value or above, obtaining a target composition in which the Ni equivalent and the Cr equivalent fall within the region and in which the starting temperature of martensitic transformation is a predetermined temperature or below, and determining the composition of basic components such that the target composition is attained in an overlaid condition.
