There are provided a work-side position measurement device and a drive-side position measurement device for directly measuring positions of roll chocks in a rolling direction, and positions of upper and lower working rolls and upper and lower backup rolls in the rolling direction are adjusted to zero point or predetermined positions. Alternatively, a change caused in the strip wedge due to a minute crossing of the axes of working rolls and backup rolls is calculated, and the quantities of leveling of a work-side rolling reduction cylinder device and a drive-side rolling reduction cylinder device are adjusted to make the strip edge equal to or smaller than a predetermined value. Accordingly, the bilateral asymmetry (strip wedge) of the thickness distribution of a rolled material is easily adjusted even in the event that the positions of the roll chocks in the rolling direction are changed due to wear on various components.

An endless hot rolling material shear-joining method capable of threading hot rolling materials in a finish rolling process without strip breakage by controlling joining conditions for the hot rolling materials in an endless hot rolling process for high carbon steel, and an endless hot rolling plant therefor are disclosed. The shear-joining method for endless hot rolling materials of high carbon steel includes shear-joining high carbon steel metal bars comprising, in terms of weight %, 0.30% to 1.20% C, inevitable impurities, and balance Fe, or comprising 0.15% to 1.5% C containing at least one of Cr, Ni, Mo, V, Ti, W, B, Nb, and Sb, inevitable impurities, and balance Fe, such that a joined surface of the joined metal bars is formed to be inclined in a thickness direction of the metal bars, in a hot rolling plant by a joiner adapted to join the metal bars after overlapping tail part of a leading one of the metal bar and top part of a trailing metal bar.

A shape detection device capable of detecting meandering of a strip with high accuracy and a method thereof. The device includes a plurality of split rolls provided in a width direction of a rolling material; a table which guides the rolling material and which is rotatably supported; a fixing member supported by the table; torque detectors for separately detecting loads acting on both ends of the split rolls when the rolling material comes in contact with the split roll as moments; supporting arms of which one end rotatably supports the split roll and the other end is supported by the fixing member through the torque detectors; a meandering amount computing unit for computing a meandering amount of the rolling material using the moments detected by the torque detectors, and a plate shape computing unit for computing a plate shape of the rolling material using the moments and the meandering amount.

Hydraulic cylinders are provided in a housing so as to be opposed to work rolls and backup rolls. Before a front end portion of a rollable material is engaged between the work rolls, the working oil pressure of the hydraulic cylinders is set at a high pressure value to make a pressing force on roll chocks high. After the rollable material is completely engaged between the work rolls, the working oil pressure of the hydraulic cylinders is set at a low pressure value to make the pressing force on the roll chocks low.

Cold rolling method for a metal strip and a mill array

The invention provides a method for improving the luster of a metal sheet surface without deteriorating the productivity and also in reducing the difference in glossiness between the upper and lower surfaces of the metal sheet at the time of cold-rolling. By making the velocity, after rolling of the metal sheet, equal to or larger than the rotational circumferential velocity of the work rolls, and by rolling the metal sheet with upper and lower work rolls crossed with each other in such manner that an angle of slip scratches left on the metal sheet surfaces becomes 5 degrees or larger and shear deformation in the widthwise direction can be effectively given to the metal sheet just before rolling, thereby improving the surface luster of the metal sheet. In addition, in the case where luster of the metal sheet surface is improved by changing the cross angle between the upper and lower crossing work rolls, the sheet configuration is corrected by a configuration control actuator, depending upon the sheet configuration of the metal sheet after the cross angle is changed. Furthermore, the difference in glossiness between the upper and lower surfaces of the metal sheet is reduced by selecting the cross angles formed by the upper and lower crossing work rolls with respect to the direction at right angles to the rolling direction and also employing rolls having different surface roughness as the upper and lower work rolls.

In a continuous rolling line wherein the tail end part of a preceding rolled plate and the head end part of a following rolled plate are joined subsequently to a rough rolling and subjected to a following continuous finish rolling: a joining method of rolled plates wherein the tail end of the preceding rolled plate and the head end of the following rolled plate are formed into a nearly rectangular convex and concave shape respectively so as to inlay each other, the convex part and the concave part being combined each other in the same plane as the rolling lines, and then being fed to the continuous finish rolling; a joining method rolled plates wherein the side surface of the parallel inlay is formed in a taper shape in the direction of the plate thickness at any desired location of either the tail end part of the preceding rolled plate or the head end part of the backward rolled plate or of the both parts, and then being fed to the continuous finish rolling; and a joining method of rolled plates wherein the cut parts of the preceding and the following rolled plates are inlaid each other at the same plane, and joining only a part of the side edge of the inlay.

Method for joining rolled plates

A rolling method and machine provides for decreasing the rolling load of work rolls of a rolling mill for a given reduction ratio achieved thereby. A pair of pinch rolls upstream of the work rolls have projections that form a large number of recesses in one or both surfaces of a metal workpiece. A lubricating agent is forced into the recesses in the region of contact between the workpiece and the work rolls. As a result, when the workpiece is rolled by the work rolls the lubricating agent is retained in the recesses such that the recesses progressively are flattened, thereby causing the lubricating agent to form a boundary film between the portion of the workpiece being rolled and the work rolls. The recesses are controlled to regulate the dimension of the length of each recess in the direction of rolling of the workpiece, to regulate the inclination of front and rear walls of each recess, and to regulate the total area of the recesses relative to the total surface area of the workpiece.
