The device-to-be-driven is arranged for performing measurement, drive, or control and is connected to the secondary coil. The current measuring unit is arranged for measuring change in the current of the primary coil caused by electric power consumed for an action of the device-to-be-driven. In at least one embodiment, diagnosis of signal status in the measurement, drive, or control by the device-to-be-driven is performed based on the measurement result of said change in current. The intermediate tap is provided to the primary coil and configured to be connected to the current measuring means.

A signal status diagnosing device of an external control unit, including an insulation transformer having a primary side, a secondary side and an intermediate tap at a midpoint of the primary winding, the secondary side is connected the external control unit. The device further includes a signal generating unit for generating a periodically vibrating voltage which is connected to the primary side of the insulation transformer, a switch circuit which is connected to the intermediate tap of the primary winding of the insulation transformer, the switch circuit has a switch and a resistance being connected to the intermediate tap in parallel with each other, and a current measuring unit connected to the switch circuit and configured to measure a first current which flows in the switch or the resistance to diagnose signal status of the external control unit.

A device for diagnosing operation status of an external control unit includes an insulation transformer, a signal generating unit, a first switch circuit constituting the external control unit connected to the secondary side of the insulation transformer, a second switch circuit connected to the intermediate tap of the primary winding of the insulation transformer, and a second switch circuit including a switch and a resistance, a detection circuit for detecting operation status of the external control unit, and a current measuring unit connected to the second switch circuit. The detection circuit includes a diode and a resistance and is connected to the secondary side of the insulation transformer. The current measuring unit measures a current flowing through the switch and/or the resistance and uses the measured current to diagnose the operation status of the external control unit.

A device for diagnosing signal status of a driven object includes an insulation transformer, a signal generating device, a current measuring device, a feedback device, and a voltage measuring device. The insulation transformer has an intermediate tap at a midpoint of its primary winding. The signal generating device generates periodically vibrating voltage and includes a rectangular wave pulse voltage and alternating voltage. The current measuring device is connected to the intermediate tap of the primary winding to measure a current.
