[Problem] An object is to provide a perpendicular magnetic recording medium that can realize both improvement in crystal orientation and refinement of crystal grain size and can achieve a higher recording density and a higher SN ratio, and a method of manufacturing the same. [Solution] A perpendicular magnetic recording mediumof the present invention is a perpendicular magnetic recording mediumhaving a base plate, and a laminate film including a first ground layerprovided on the base plate, a second ground layerprovided on the first ground layer, and a main recording layerprovided on the second ground layerand containing a magnetic material having a granular structure, wherein the magnetic material which constitutes the main recording layercontains a CoCrPt alloy, and a material which constitutes the second ground layercontains an Ru&#x2014;Co oxide alloy.

Perpendicular magnetic recording media and methods for producing the same

A perpendicular magnetic recording medium is used for information recording of a perpendicular magnetic recording type. The perpendicular magnetic recording medium includes a substrate, a soft magnetic layer, an underlayer, and a magnetic layer having a multilayered structure including a plurality of magnetic layers. The soft magnetic layer, the underlayer, and the magnetic layer are formed on the substrate. At least one of the magnetic layers includes CoPt magnetic grains containing oxide. The oxide includes at least one material selected from the group consisting of SiO, TiO, CrO, TaO, WO, CoO, and CoO.
