A backlight assembly includes a light guide plate, a light source, a mold and a main frame. The light guide plate includes a first surface and a second surface extending from the first surface. The light source is disposed adjacent to the first surface of the light guide plate. The mold includes an upper portion, a lower portion and a side portion. The side portion connects to the upper and lower portions to form a receiving space, and the receiving space receives the light source and the first surface of the light guide plate. The main frame includes side walls and an upper wall extending from an upper portion of the side walls, and the mold is disposed in an opening below the upper wall.

The light guide plate and a light guide pattern output light, which is emitted from the edge-type lamp, through a space between two adjacent direct-type lamps. The backlight assembly supplies light to the light receiving region such that brightness is uniformly distributed throughout the light receiving region regardless of the position of the direct-type lamps.

An interval between a center of each light source and the respective ridge positioned directly over the light source is from about 0.2 to about 0.55 times the distance.

A backlight assembly includes a light source, a light-guide plate, a reflective sheet, a first prism sheet, a second prism sheet and a lateral reflective sheet. The light source generates light. The light-guide plate guides the light and has a plurality of first prism patterns adjacent to each other. The first prism patterns are formed on a first surface of the light-guide plate. A backlight assembly includes a light source, a light-guide plate (LGP), a reflective sheet and at least one optical sheet. The light source emits light. The LGP includes a light-incident surface, a light-reflecting surface and a light-emitting surface. The light-incident surface receives the light from the light source. The light-reflecting surface has a plurality of first prism patterns spaced apart from each other and flat portions formed between the first prism patterns, which are substantially perpendicular to the light-incident surface. The light-emitting surface has a plurality of second prism patterns formed thereon. The reflective sheet is disposed below the LGP. At least one optical sheet is disposed on the LGP.

Backlight assembly, liquid crystal display device having the same, and method of manufacturing thereof

In a light modulating plate, a backlight assembly having the light modulating plate and a display device having the light modulating plate, the light modulating plate includes a light modulating layer and a light characteristics improving member. The light modulating layer includes a foam layer to modulate a light. The light characteristics improving member is integrally formed with the light modulating layer to improve optical characteristics of the light that has passed through the light modulating layer. Therefore, the backlight assembly is easily fabricated, and an image display quality is improved.
