Systems and methods are disclosed for providing direct style sheet editing. The disclosed systems and methods may include selecting a first target rule for a next formatting operation. The selected first target rule may include a modified property and may be selected from a plurality of target rules. Furthermore, the disclosed systems and methods may include enabling property changes to occur in a most specific target rule in the plurality of target rules. The most specific target rule may contain the modified property. Moreover, the disclosed systems and methods may include providing a highlighting mechanism configured to allow a user to see which regions of a page are to be affected by the selected first target rule.

Methods and systems for providing direct style sheet editing

An aggregate property grid includes a rule list and a property list such that a web developer may easily determine which properties correspond to which rules. The rule list displays a list of rules that are applied to a selected document element. The property list includes the properties that are applied to the selected document element. Different rules associated with the selected document element may be aggregated such that only the properties that are applied to the document element are displayed in the property list. Conflicting properties may be merged according to a prioritized hierarchy such that each conflicting property may have a higher or lower precedence compared to the other conflicting properties.

Method and system for aggregating rules that define values for the same property associated with the same document element

An auto-completion list for a cascading style sheet (CSS) selector is generated based on user input and contextual information associated with a target document. The user input that triggers the generation of the auto-completion list is entered while creating a CSS selector. A CSS block in the target document is parsed to determine the contextual information associated with the target document corresponding to the user input. The contextual information and the user input are analyzed to determine appropriate elements to add to the CSS selector to complete CSS selector syntax. The appropriate elements are provided in the auto-completion list. The auto-completion list is displayed proximate the location where the user entered the input that triggered generation of the auto-completion list. The user may then select one of the elements displayed in the auto-completion list to add the selected element to the CSS selector syntax.
