The present disclosure relates to methods for improving the quality of diamonds by eliminating internal defects, such as cracks and vacant volumes, without the use of filler materials such as glass, thereby improving the diamond's optical performance or appearance. More particularly, the disclosure relates to a method of curing defects in a genuine or synthetic diamond or other gemstone by using Atomic Layer Deposition ('ALD') processes to form atomic layers within vacant volumes or cracks in the diamond or gemstone. Alternatively, ALD may be used to form crystalline layers of a new diamond or other gemstone.

Method and system for computer-based private branch exchange

An optical switch device includes a first array () of reflectors (), each associated with a separate optical fiber input (), and a second array () of reflectors (), each associated with a separate fiber output (). Planar array optical switch and method

An optical matrix switch station () is shown mounting a plurality of optical switch units (), each of which includes a mirror (), moveable in two axes, for purpose of switching light beams from one optical fiber to another. A mirror assembly () is formed from a single body of silicon and comprises a frame portion (), gimbals (), mirror portion (), and related hinges (). Magnets () and air coils () are utilized to position the central mirror surface () to a selected orientation. Optical switching apparatus

Building-to-building over the air transmission of optical data is a growing area of data communications. The fast growing use of bandwidth mandates the use of over the air transmission equipment capable of similar performance as the performance of fiber optic transmission, for distances of 3-10 Km. Transparent transmission is important to enable seamless growth from low data-rare to Gbps rates, and then to Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexed (DWDM) transmission of several wavelengths. The only way to achieve the required performance is with narrow, directable beams. This patent application discloses a Micro-Electro-Mechanical-Systems (MEMS) mirror based, over the air, optical data transmission system. A narrow optical beam is used and a MEMS mirror fine-tunes the aiming of the beam to track building movement, vibrations etc.

MEMS based over-the-air optical data transmission system

The present invention is directed to an optical switch for switching the light from one of a plurality of inputs to one of a plurality of outputs. The switch contains at least two moveable mirrors constructed using MEM technology and a servo mechanism connected to the moveable mirrors to be used in mirror, input and output alignment. These switches are useful in applications such as fiber-fiber switches and optical disk drives. The switches may be combined with other optical equipment including stationary mirrors and lenses, such as focusing lenses, to optimize optical transmission.

Systems and methods for actuating optical elements steer a beam in two degrees of freedom in order to efficiently align the beam between a selected input and output. These systems include actuator configurations that have piezoelectric and electromagnetic components, servo control systems, and optical cross connect configurations. The actuable optical elements include reflective surfaces (e.g., mirrors), prisms, lenses, and optical fibers.
