The invention describes a liquids package includes a tube formed by a longitudinal sealing seam and a bottom. A cover, which consists of thermoplastics synthetic material with no carrier mateial, is molded onto the tube and comprises a pourer device. The tube consists of coated cardboard. The bottom is tetragonal and is constructed from the folded-over tube as a folded-over closure. A handle connected to the cover is mounted laterally on the tube and below the cover. To allow the end user ease of handling and so that the package can be space-savingly stored and transported, while ensuring that the package can be produced from a flat strip of cardboard, while forming a quadrilateral outer contour of the package, the outside dimensions of the bottom are equal to the tetragonal cross-sectional dimensions of the package from the bottom to the cover. The handle together with the cover is injection molded on within the quadrilateral outer contours of the package.

Liquids package with handle

A pack for containing materials which are capable of flow includes a tube formed by a longitudinal sealing seam, along with a bottom and a cover closing the tube ends. The cover is formed from thermoplastic material without a carrier material, is injected on the tube, and has a pouring spout. The tube comprises cardboard which is coated with thermoplastic material on one side. The bottom is quadrangular, formed from the folded-over tube of the pack of a fold-type closure. The cover and the cross-section of the pack, at least in the region of the cover, are round. To improve such a pack with a handle so that the final consumer enjoys improved handleability and transportability, the invention provides that a portion of the tube wall, which adjoins the periphery of the cover, is folded onto itself, forming a handle, and is joined to provide a double-wall surface portion in which a gripping opening is provided. The cover is extended over the upper edge of the double-wall surface portion with the gripping opening to provide a stiffening web.

The invention relates to a packing material in the form of a web intended for aseptic packages. The packing material is a laminate with, the side of the packing material web which is intended to form the inside of the packages consisting of a thermoplastic layer, preferably polyethylene. This polyethylene layer has a sterile surface and is covered in turn by a thin plastic film which completely covers the polyethylene layer and maintains its sterility. On the conversion of the packing material to packages, the thin plastic film is separated from the surface-sterile polyethylene layer, whereupon the remaining packing material is formed to a tube which is filled with sterile contents so as to form closed packing units.

Packing material for aseptic packages

In the packaging field certain types of packages are manufactured from pre-shaped, cylindrical casings made from a heat-shrinkable laminate. The casings are formed by winding a material sheet around a mandrel and subsequent sealing together of the overlapping ends of the sheet. However, because of the stiffness of the material the leading end of the sheet protrudes tangentially from the mandrel during the winding and prevents an accurate adaptation of the material sheet to the surface of the mandrel. According to the method and arrangement of this invention this disadvantage is avoided in that the leading end of the sheet is pre-heated on the side facing the mandrel to such a degree, that the shrinking is initialled. The shrinking of one side only results in that the leading end of the material sheet is given a curved shape with a radius that coincides with the radius of the mandrel, and consequently the leading end is no longer an obstacle to the winding.

Method and an arrangement for the manufacture of casings

The invention relates to a packing material in the form of a web intended for aseptic packages. The packing material is a laminate with the side of the packing material web which is intended to form the inside of the packages consisting of a thermoplastic layer, preferably polyethylene. This polyethylene layer has a sterile surface and is covered in turn by a thin plastic film which completely covers the polyethylene layer and maintains its sterility. On the conversion of the packing material to packages, the thin plastic film is separated from the surface-sterile polyethylene layer, whereupon the remaining packing material is formed to a tube which is filled with sterile contents so as to form closed packing units.

Cup-shaped packing containers are used for the packaging of e.g. yoghurt. The packing containers are provided with lids which can be removed from the packing container in that e.g. the seal between lid and cup portion is broken. After opening the lid cannot be used for the reclosure of the packing container. This is a disadvantage, which is overcome in accordance with the invention, in that the lid is adapted so that it fits closely against the inside of the cup portion in an area situated below the line along which on opening of the packing container the lid is intended to be separated from the cup portion. By an appropriate dimensioning of the lid and the cup portion the lid can be retained by and seal the cup portion after the opening, which is an advantage if a part of the contents is to be saved for later consumption.

Reclosable packing container

A machine for transforming heat shrinkable thermoplastic material into sealed and liquid-filled containers in which the material in strip form is cut off to a suitable length then heated and transformed into a tube-shaped shell blank on a mandrel with an overlapped longitudinal heat-sealed seam. The shell is then displaced in relation to the mandrel so that its bottom end extends beyond the end of the mandrel, a base blank cut from another strip is then inserted into the end of the shell to rest against the mandrel end, and the shell and inserted base are then heated causing the shell to shrink accurately to the shape of the mandrel and the bottom edge zone of the heated shell to be folded in against the end of the mandrel and the edge of the base. The joined edge zones of the shell and base are then pressed together and heat sealed. The container is then passed to a filling machine where it is filled and closed by a lid.

Machine for the manufacture of packing containers

A packing container of substantially cylindrical form is made from a convoluted blank with the end portions thereof sealed together. One end of the upper edge of the blank has a tab member extending circumferentially of the cylindrical container and the other end of the upper edge of the blank has a corresponding cut-out portion. The ends are overlapped, with the tab portion on the outside, to such an extent that the width of the seal is greater than the circumferential length of the cut-out portion so that the seal includes a finger-like extension up to the top of the container. A tear thread is attached around the inside of the container and extends along the outer tab portion so that when pulled it will tear through the finger-like seal thus facilitating opening of the container.

Opening arrangement for packing containers

A foamed plastic material of polyethylene or polystyrene capable of being heat-shaped for use in making packing containers wherein by stretching of the foam the cells therein are given a lenticular or elongated structure. In the case of a lenticular cell structure, produced by a bi-axial stretching operation, the individual cells are situated in layers in parallel planes. In the case of an elongated cell structure, produced by a mono-axial stretching operation, the individual cells are situated with their longitudinal axes in parallel planes.
