The disclosed technology is generally directed to code transparency. In one example of the technology, a claim associated with an application is received. The claim is a document that is signed with a claim signature and that includes evidence associated with a policy, and further includes an expected set of at least one binary measurement associated with the application. The evidence is cryptographically verifiable evidence associated with the application. A trusted execution environment (TEE) is used to provide a distributed ledger. The claim is verified. Verifying the claim includes verifying the expected set of at least one binary measurement associated with the application, verifying the claim signature, and, based at least on the evidence, verifying that the application meets the policy. Upon successful verification of the claim, the claim is appended to the distributed ledger. A ledger countersignature associated with the claim is generated.

Code transparency system operation

The disclosed technology is generally directed to code transparency. In one example of the technology, evidence associated with a policy is obtained. The evidence includes data that includes cryptographically verifiable evidence associated with initial source code in accordance with the policy. The initial source code is source code for a CTS. The initial binary is based on the initial source code is executed in a TEE such that a CTS instance begins operation. The CTS instance is configured to register guarantee(s) associated with code approved by the CTS instance. The TEE is used to provide a ledger. The evidence is stored on the ledger. Measurement(s) associated with the binary are provided. A service key associated with CTS instance is generated. TEE attestation of the measurement(s), the evidence, and the service key is provided.

Bootstrapping a code transparency system

The communication of a network message from a first network node in a particular location to a second network node in a manner that the second network node determines that the network message was processed the network message in the particular location. For instance, the particular location might be a geographic location or a network topographical location. The proof of location is accomplished by using a signed proof of location included by the first network node within the network message. The network message is then received by the second network entity. The second network entity then uses the signed proof of location data structure as input to a process that determines that the network message was processed at least based on the signed proof of location data structure.

Location identification of prior network message processor

A computer-implemented method for authorizing access by a client application to a resource of a user maintained on a first server computing system, the client application being implemented on a second server computing system, includes receiving a delegation message from the first server computer system to initiate authorization of the access by the client application, issuing an authorization message to the first server computer system, the authorization message comprising an authorization data package for redemption by the client application, the authorization data package comprising first through fourth integral delegation data indicative of the user, the client application, the resource, and a timestamp, respectively, receiving a redemption message from the second server computing system comprising the authorization data package, conducting an analysis of the authorization data package, and sending an access token to the second server computing system based on the analysis.

Authorization messaging with integral delegation data

The claims based identity model provides a model which associates security identities with claims. The model represents information contained in the claims, as well as, captures relationships between the security identities described in the claims. Finally, the data model can be easily translated to the existing .NET environment without breaking the backward compatibility for existing .NET applications.

Representing security identities using claims

The subject disclosure relates to authorization based on a determination of permissions that can be granted for an action(s) to be performed on a resource. The determination of the permission is based on a set of rules that represent a theory including a notion of trust that has been divided into different sized tables. The tables are utilized to evaluate two or more input claims and to facilitate a determination of whether access to at least one system resource is to be granted. The evaluation can include matching the two or more input claims to rows in the table, wherein access is allowed if a match is found.

Access control management

Creating a token for use by an entity when digitally signing documents. In a computing environment, a digital identity representation for an entity is accessed. The digital identity representation includes information identifying identity attributes about the entity and capabilities of an identity provider that provides tokens for use by the entity. Context information is accessed. The context information includes information about one or more of which, how or where the attributes for the entity identified in the digital identity representation will be used. A security token is created from the information in the digital identity representation and the context information. The security token makes assertions by the identity provider. The assertions are based on the information in the digital identity representation. The token further includes information related to at least a portion of the context information.

Digitally signing documents using identity context information

Implementations of the present invention relate in part to optimizations to peer-to-peer communication systems. For example, one implementation relates to use of a smart transceiver that creates, caches, and manages communication channels dynamically between peers. Another implementation relates to use of a central tracking object that can be used to efficiently register and distribute peer messages among the various peers. In one implementation, the central tracking object is shared amongst peers in the group. Still another implementation relates to associating peer groups with namespaces, and for including peer groups of one namespace within still other peer groups of different namespaces. These and other aspects of the invention can also be used to ensure delivery intent of a given peer message is preserved, and to ensure that optimal numbers of messages are communicated to any given peer at any given time.

Optimizing communication using scalable peer groups

A system and method for provisioning digital identity representations ('DIRs') uses various techniques and structures to ease administration, increase accuracy, and decrease inconsistencies of a digital-identity provisioning system. A system is provided using a common identity data store for both DIR issuance and identity token issuance, decreasing synchronization issues. Various methods are provided for creating new DIRs, notifying principals of available DIRs, and approving issuance of new DIRs.

Provisioning of digital identity representations

A system and method for authenticating an HTTP message. A relying party may respond to a request from a requester by sending an HTTP message with authentication specifications to the requester. The requester responds with a new request that adheres to a scheme specified by the relying party. A framework allows for a security token to be located in an HTTP header or a message body, with various options such as fragmenting the token available. An option allows for cryptographically binding the security token to the body of a message. An authentication framework provides for an implementation by an HTTP stack or by an application.

HTTP-based authentication

A cryptographic session key is utilized to maintain security of a digital identity. The session key is valid only for a limited period of time. Additional security is provided via a bimodal credential allowing different levels of access to the digital identify. An identity token contains pertinent information associated with the digital identity. The identity token is encrypted utilizing public-key cryptography. An identifier utilized to verify the validity of the digital identity is encrypted with the cryptographic session key. The encrypted identity token and the encrypted identifier are provided to a service for example. The service decrypts the encrypted identity token utilizing public key cryptography, and decrypts, with the cryptographic session key obtained from the identity token, the encrypted identifier. If the identifier is determined to be valid, the transaction proceeds normally. If the identifier is determined to be invalid, the transaction is halted.

Securely roaming digital identities

Within a distributed system, e.g., Web service environment, the present invention provides a way for identifying policies mapped to messages associated with an application, without having to have code within the application for determining what policies should apply to the messages. A centralized Web service engine is provided that receives incoming and outgoing messages associated with an application. The messages have associated with them destination endpoint identifiers and request-reply properties, which the Web service engine can access. The Web service engine can then use at least the identifiers and properties for scanning policy message files corresponding to the applications in order to identify what policies, if any, should be applied to the messages.

Mapping policies to messages

Communication of a compressed message over a communication channel between message processors. The compressed message may be expressed in terms of an expressed or implicit template identification, and values of one or more parameters. Based on the template identification, the meaning of the one or more parameters may be understood, whereas the meaning of the parameter(s) may not be understood without a knowledge of the template. The template provides semantic context for the one or more parameters. The transmitting message processor may have compressed the message using the identified template. Alternatively or in addition, the receiving message processor may decompress the message using the identified template. The template itself need not be part of the compressed message as transmitted.

Message encoding/decoding using templated parameters

Example embodiments provide for processing policies that include policy assertions associated with incoming or outgoing messages of an application in a distributed system, without having to have code within the application for executing the policy assertions. When a message is received by a Web service engine, a policy document associated with an application may be accessed for identifying objects corresponding to policy assertions within the policy document. The objects identified can then be used to generate assertion handlers, which are software entities that include executable code configured to determine if messages can satisfy requirements described by the policy assertions.

Policy processing model

Example embodiments provide for a rule-based wizard type tool for generating secure policy documents. Wizard pages present a user with general Web Service security options or questions at a user interface, which abstracts the user from any specific code, e.g., XML code, used for creating a Web Service policy document. Based on user input selecting general criteria, security rules are accessed and evaluated for automatically making choices on behalf of the user for creating a secure policy document. Other embodiments also provide for presenting the user with an easily understandable visual representation of selected criteria of a policy document in, e.g., a tree like structure that shows relationships between various elements of the criteria.
