A behind-the-ear hearing device has a hearing device housing and a user-operable switch. At least two microphones are disposed below the switch in the hearing device housing, and the housing is formed with first sound openings that are arranged directly below the switch. The switch is preferably a rocker switch. The microphones can be positioned below a switch in a space-saving fashion and the installation space of the hearing device housing can thus be used optimally.

The data records to be stored in the two hearing devices of a binaural hearing system during the adjustment are generally different. With 'side definition', the correct assignment of the two hearing devices to the ears or of the wearer is ensured. To this end, an acoustic signal is transmitted to the wearer by way of the receiver of at least one of these hearing devices. The wearer informs the adjusting facility by way of an input device connected hereto, as to the ear with which the wearer heard this acoustic signal or which spatial characteristic or asymmetry is attributed to this acoustic signal.

A hearing device that is operated with a rechargeable battery pack has at least one contact element that is fashioned to accept a charging current in electrical connection with an external charging device. The contact element is resiliently mounted at the hearing device and can be pressed onto a charging contact of the external charging device during a charging state under the application of a positive force. The contact element is located in a first position in an operating state or rest state of the hearing device, and is moved into a second position in the charging state.

A self-powered medical device, which is operated independently of the public utility network, has at least one voltage source, a signal input for accepting an analog input signal and a signal processing unit. The sampling rate for the input signal or the clock frequency of at least one digital component can be varied. Therefore, the energy demand can be reduced according to the requirements of the signal processing or when the discharge state of the voltage source requires a reduction.
