A cover receptacle assembly of plastics for use in laboratories, in particular for the polymerase chain reaction technique, comprising a tubular receptacle having a receptacle botton at one end and a receptacle opening at an opposite end, a cover for sealingly closing said receptacle opening, strap hinge means integrally and pivotally connecting said receptacle and cover with each other, and holding means for holding said cover in an intermediate position between an initial position wherein said cover is pivoted away from said receptacle opening for 180.degree. and a closing position wherein said cover closes said receptacle opening.

A pipetting device comprises a retaining cone for holding a slip-on pipette tip and a piston chamber, which communicates with a passage of the retaining cone and contains a reciprocable piston, which acts on the pipette tip that has been fitted on the retaining cone. A filter is provided in the assembly and consists of an aerosol-retaining filter that is detachably mounted in a region which includes the lower end of the pipetting device (1), including the retaining cone (8), as well as the upper end portion of the pipette tip (10) below the retaining cone. The filter may be designed in various ways and may have a progressive filter action. The filter may be arranged in the lower end portion of the retaining cone (8) or in the pipette tip (10) or in an interposed member.

A fillable sample taking element for handling a liquid sample has a conical end portion which defines an intake and discharge opening, which is adapted to be sealed by a conical valve member, which is provided with an actuating rod, which protrudes outwardly through the intake opening and is bare relative to said intake opening. The valve constitutes a gravity valve having a valve member (8) which is disposed in the interior of the sample taking element (3) in the tapering portion (13) thereof which is disposed above and tapers from the intake opening (6). The valve seat for that valve member has a surface which faces away from the intake and discharge opening. The outwardly protruding actuating rod (10) serves to unseat the valve member. The valve will be closed when the sample taking element is arranged with the intake and discharge opening at the bottom and/or under the action of an internal pressure in the sample taking element.

Fillable sample taking vessel for handling a liquid sample

A plastic reaction vessel for holding a small quantity of liquid comprises a vessel body which has a body flange (4) surrounding an opening formed in the body, a cover, and a connecting strip (5) which is integral with the vessel body and the cover. Opposite to the connecting strip (5), the body flange (4) has a downwardly facing abutment surface (25), which is engageable by a hooklike extension (23), which is formed on the cover (6) and extends downwardly when the cover is closed. The connecting strip (5) comprises a hinge portion (12) between its opposite end portions. The cover comprise a cylindrical skirt, which is adapted to be inserted into the vessel body through the opening therein. A sealing lip (8) is provided on the outside of said skirt at that end thereof which is adapted to be inserted into the opening of the vessel body. The cover (6) has an outwardly protruding rim (16), from which a depending flange extends, which contacts the body flange so that a parallel guidance of the cover (6) is effected in conjunction with the hinge portion of the connecting strip. An alignment of the cover (6) is effected by the sealing lip (8), which is formed on the cylindrical skirt and in sealing contact with the inside surface of the vessel body.
