An invertible tubular substrate of resin-permeated fibrous material is surrounded by an impermeable tubular film which, in turn, is surrounded by an impermeable tubular calibrating element. One end of the substrate is inserted into one end of a pipe which is to be lined from the inside, and the assembly of substrate, film and calibrating element is thereupon inverted into the pipe wherein the substrate is immediately adjacent the internal surface of the pipe and surrounds the film. The calibrating element is separable from the film and can be withdrawn from the interior of the inverted film by a flexible cord. The resin in the substrate sets upon inversion and maintains the inverted substrate in contact with the internal surface of the pipe.

The present invention provides a novel method for softlining rehabilitation of pipe conduits in which the lining hose comprises an inner layer of resin-absorbing material and an outer layer which is a disintegrable coating. The outer layer initially allows for soaking the resin-absorbing material with resin, but disintegrates during installation so that the resin can contact the interior surface of the pipe conduit and provide an improved rehabilitation method. The present invention further provides a novel lining hose for use in softlining rehabilitation.

Method of softlining sewer rehabilitation

The method for lining a pipe laid in the ground, especially a sewer conduit made from concrete, asbestos cement or stoneware, comprises making a lining tube for the pipe with an outer layer and an inner layer made from fiber fleece and a barrier layer impermeable to fluid located between the inner layer and the outer layer. The outer layer is soaked with a stress-free hardenable plastic resin adhering well to the pipe in one or more regions of over its entire length and the inner layer is soaked with the same or another plastic resin having reduced shrinkage not impairing the outer layer. The lining tube is introduced into the pipe and pressed on the inner surfaces of the pipe to be sanitized. The plastic resin is hardened to form an adhesive bond between the pipe and the outer layer. Advantageously the outer layer is soaked with epoxy resin and the inner layer is soaked with polyester resin. The product of this method, a sanitized conduit, is also described.

Method for lining a pipe laid in the ground

A method of salvaging a pipe conduit which has a predetermined inner diameter and is buried under ground, especially a sewer pipe includes the steps of soaking a resin-absorbing inner layer of a lining hose which further includes an impermeable outer layer that outwardly adjoins and surrounds the inner layer and has an outer diameter which is slightly smaller than the inner diameter of the pipe conduit to be salvaged with an amount of a resin that exceeds that needed for saturating the inner layer. The outer layer is perforated to form a plurality of flow-through openings for the resin therein. The lining hose is subsequently introduced in its collapsed state into the pipe conduit. Finally, the lining hose is shaped to conformingly line the pipe conduit by causing a fluid to flow at a superatmospheric pressure into an auxiliary hose at least partially received in the lining hose and including a turned-over region with attendant gradual advancement of the turned-over region of the auxiliary hose into the lining hose and escape of the excess amount of the resin through the flow-through openings.

Method of salvaging a pipe conduit buried under ground

A method of salvaging a pipe conduit which is buried under ground, especially a sewer pipe, includes soaking a resin-absorbing inner layer of a lining hose, which further includes an impermeable outer layer that outwardly adjoins and surrounds the inner layer, with a first resin. The lining hose is then placed into the pipe conduit. A surface region of a calibrating hose which is to contact the inner layer of the lining hose is provided with a layer containing a second resin. The lining hose is then shaped to conformingly line the pipe conduit. Such shaping involves introducing the calibrating hose into the lining hose in such a manner that the resin-containing layer of the calibrating hose contacts the inner layer of the lining hose and pressing the calibrating hose against the lining hose to urge the latter against the pipe conduit. Finally, at least one of the first and second resins is hardened. Preferably, the other resin contains a substance which chemically reacts with at least the one resin to cause the same to harden during the hardening step upon contact of the resin-containing and inner layers.
