A power skiving method wherein three-dimensional cutter rotations relative to gear workpiece tooth flank surfaces are carried out so as to reposition the cutter relative to a gear workpiece so as to achieve a decrease and/or an increase in the pressure angle of the tooth flank surfaces. The method can be applied independently to left and right flank surfaces of a tooth slot or the rotations may be superimposed on one another to realize pressure angle corrections on both tooth flanks of a tooth slot.

A method directed to gear cutting tools and gear cutter job consolidation resulting in a single cutter capable of cutting a plurality of different members of a part family. The method comprises a multi-step approach comprising a first step of defining a temporary master. A second step creates a virtual master which is especially well-suited for accommodating the requirements of the jobs in the consolidation variety. A third step determines cutting depths and optimized machine settings for all consolidation jobs using the virtual master.

A gear cutting tool wherein each cutting blade group includes two differently positioned but identical cutting blades () such as an one outside and one inside blade. The inventive blade arrangement only requires a single type of blade () in order to simultaneously cut the convex and the concave tooth flanks of a gear as well as the root fillet and root bottom portions of tooth slots. The cutter system allows radial adjustment of the outside cutting blade and the inside cutting blade independently of one another. Additionally, inside and outside cutting blades may be exchanged with one another.

In contrast to known cutting blade configurations, the cutting blade () of the present invention has its cutting face () formed in a surface of the cutting blade that is located opposite to the seating surface or V-shaped seating surfaces () of the cutting blade.

The flexible clamping disc includes a slot () between each cutting blade () in order to provide a plurality of blade clamping web wings () each of which acts like a deflection beam to hold the blades in position. Preferably, each web wing () covers one stick blade () and each web wing has two contacting pads () to press each blade into its seating surface () thereby holding the blade in position.
