In analyzing the texture of rolled metal sheets and strips by means of X-rays or .gamma.-rays that penetrate them, the total beam emitted by the source of radiation is divided by collimators into several component beams, and each component beam is aimed at a different angle at a component area of the sheet or strip being tested. The diffracted radiation that penetrates the sheet is analyzed in accordance with its energy distribution in detectors and the results are processed in a computer.

Method and apparatus for texture analysis

A spectral analysis device for determining the additions to the steel and an apparatus for generating laser beams are connected via adjustable and switchable couplable optical waveguides to the agitating gas nozzles disposed in the bottom of a converter, the radiation passing through the agitating gas nozzles being converted via metallized agitating gas nozzles and photoamplifiers to measurable intensities.

Spectral analysis device on a converter

A method and apparatus for a very exact correction of the thickness profile of strip rolled in a multi-stand hot strip mill. A measuring device determines the distribution of tensions in the cross-section of the strip (19). The measuring values are processed in a computer (32) to manipulated variables for a swinging or tilting device and a roll bending device (42). The roll bending device (42) is installed at the end of a hot strip mill train, and one or several roll swinging or tilting devices with measuring devices are provided, as seen in rolling direction, before the roll bending device (42).

Apparatus for correcting the thickness profile of a strip to be rolled

An electrodynamic sound converter is disclosed for the non-destructive ultrasonic testing of workpieces during relative movement of the workpiece and the testing head. The testing head has an annular electromagnet which produces a magnetic field, and a rod-shaped core extends coaxially through the electromagnet and has a tip which projects beyond the same in direction towards the workpiece to be tested. The core is axially slidable relative to the electromagnet towards and away from the workpiece and the electromagnet and the tip of the core are each independently maintained at a fixed predetermined spacing from a surface of the workpiece being tested. The tip is being biased towards the surface, and a high-frequency coil is located adjacent the tip and serves to produce electromagnetic oscillations. Various modifications are also disclosed.

Electrodynamic sound converter

An electrodynamic sound converter which comprises a magnet adapted to generate a magnetic field and direct same onto the surface of the workpiece to be checked by the electrodynamic sound converter, and which also includes an excitation coil located between the magnet and the workpiece to be checked for generating electromagnetic oscillations. That end of the magnet core of the magnet which faces the workpiece to be checked is so designed that the magnet core decreases in cross section toward its foremost point which is closest to the surface of the workpiece to be checked, the rate of increase increasing in the direction toward the foremost point of the magnet core.
