The present disclosure relates to a contact tens comprising a channel extending therethrough, an ocular device configured to engage with the channel, and related kits and methods that provide for improved contact lens insertion, cleaning and removal, as well as ocular safety and health.

Ocular device

The present disclosure relates to devices and processes for fabricating a multi-component optical system. A device is an integral mold comprising an attachment portion and a cup portion having a cavity, and the mold further comprises a first optical component. The cavity of the mold contains additional optical components to form a multi-component optical system blank. Another device is a multi-component optical system blank. A process for fabricating a multi-component optical system blank comprises providing an integral mold comprising a first optical component, adding at least a second optical component, shaping the mold after addition of an optical component, and shaping the resultant blank into an optical system. A further device is a multi-component optical system produced in a process disclosed herein.

Devices and processes for fabricating multi-component optical systems

A new high refractive index, oxygen permeable contact lens material and method for making the same. The material comprises an alkyl acrylate, a fluoro acrylate, a silicone acrylate, a polymerizable vinyl monomer having a substituted aromatic ring and/or heterocyclic ring structure, a multifunctional acrylate, and a polymerizable vinyl monomer having a heterocyclic ring structure.

High refractive index oxygen permeable contact lens system and method

A hybrid contact lens includes a substantially rigid center portion and a substantially flexible skirt portion connected to the center portion. The skirt portion is formed using xerogels compatible with diluents comprising at least one selected from polylactic acid, polyglycolic acid, lactide, glycolide, a polyacetal, a cyclic acetal, a polyketal, a cyclic ketal, a polyorthoester, a cyclic orthoester, di-t-butyl-dicarbonate, tris(trimethylsilyl)amine, and 2,2,2-trifluoroacetamide. These diluents are formulated to function as a stand-in for water in the xerogel polymer, allowing the xerogel to form and bond to the rigid center portion in its fully expanded state. Upon hydration of the hybrid lens, substantially little dimensional change, and thus substantially little distortion, is obtained in the skirt portion. The diluents of the present invention further preserve the mechanical integrity of the xerogel, allowing the xerogel to be machined to final shape, improving the dimensional tolerances which can be achieved in the hybrid lens.

Disclosed is a polymeric article at least a portion of which is manufactured from a hydrogel material having a hydration level of from between about 45% and 56% by weight, which hydrogel is formed from a xerogel which is a copolymer system that can be solvolyzed and hydrated and during which undergoes a linear expansion of from about -7% to about +7%. The polymeric article is comprised of a copolymer system comprising dichloroacetate ester of glyceryl acrylate, methacrylate and ethacrylate and one or more compatible ethylenically unsaturated monomers without such solvolyzable groups.
