A system for liver dialysis makes use of a high cut-off hemodialysis membrane for removing water-soluble and protein-bound toxins from the blood of a person in need. A high cut-off hollow fiber hemodialysis membrane has improved potential to remove albumin-bound toxins and inflammatory mediators.

High cut-off hemodialysis membrane for use in liver dialysis

An extracorporeal system for liver dialysis comprises a filter device having hollow fibers with integrated ion-exchange particles and hydrophobic adsorbent particles in the filtrate space. The system can be used for the treatment of acute liver failure and acute-on-chronic liver failure.

A fluid distribution module () for causing and monitoring the circulation of fluids from and to a patient through an extracorporeal blood treatment device, comprises a degassing device () connected to a connecting structure (). The degassing device () comprises a first chamber () having a lower inlet () for a liquid and a second chamber () having an upper opening () closed by a hydrophobic membrane () and an outlet () for discharging the liquid. The connecting structure () has at least a first and a second conduits () defined therein, wherein the first conduit () comprises a first end for connection to a discharge tube () from the treatment device and a second end connected to the inlet () of the first chamber () of the degassing device (), and the second conduit () comprises a first end connected to the outlet () of the second chamber () of the degassing device () and a second end for connection to a blood return tube () to a patient.

The present invention relates to a permselective asymmetric hollow fibre membrane for the separation of toxic mediators from blood, comprised of at least one hydrophobic polymer and at least one hydrophilic polymer. A degassing device () comprises a first chamber () having an inlet for a liquid, and a second chamber () having an opening () closed by a hydrophobic membrane () and an outlet () for discharging the liquid. The first chamber () has a downstream portion that partially extends within the second chamber () and communicates therewith by a passageway (). Degassing device and end-cap assembly for a filter including such a degassing device

There is provided a method of reducing blood free light chain concentration in a subject, the method comprising the step of subjecting the subject's blood to haemodialysis, haemodiafiltration or haemofiltration. There is also provided the use of a dialysis membrane which is a membrane that allows passage of molecules having a molecular weight of up to 45 kDa in presence of whole blood, and has a molecular weight exclusion limit in water of about 200 kDa in the preparation of a haemodialysis unit for conducting haemodialysis, haemodiafiltration or haemofiltration on a subject to reduce blood free light chain concentration in the patient.

A filter device having filter means, in particular hollow fiber membranes, arranged in more than one filtration compartment within a filter housing. The filter device thereby allows more than one filtration process to be carried out serially and/or simultaneously within a single housing.
