A method of and apparatus for controlling the thickness of an ice bank as might typically be found in the beverage dispenser field, wherein the method has the steps of attaching an ice sensor to the cooling coils of the ice bank reservoir, selecting and setting an operatively fixed but user-selectable space between the sensor and the cooling coils, freezing a portion of water to form the ice bank, sensing the formation of ice at the sensor, and controlling the freezing responsive to the sensing of ice. The apparatus is usually flat and manufactured from a single piece of injection molded plastic. Included within a first region are a curved portion for interweaving between adjacent cooling coils, and a strap for wrapping around an additional cooling coil spaced from the adjacent coils. The apparatus bends to form a substantially triangular support for the sensor. The sensor is retained by clips to the second region and extends outside of the triangular area bounded by the three portions of the apparatus. The third portion of the apparatus is insertable through an interlocking opening in the first region, and can be interlocked at various insertion distances, enabling adjustable yet secure spacing between the sensor and the cooling coils.

Method and apparatus for controlling ice thickness

A post-mix beverage dispensing system has a structure for flushing the dispensing valve and its nozzle of syrup using diluent water from the water supply; the dispensing valve has a nozzle, syrup and water valves and an actuator for the syrup and water valves, a mounting block for the dispensing valve has water and syrup ports with inlets and outlets and normally closed disconnect valves in the outlet enabling removal of the dispensing valve from the block, a flush connector goes across the bottom of the block and is fluidly connected into the water and syrup ports, a normally closed flush valve is in the connector and has an external pushbutton actuator for opening the valve for connecting the water port to the syrup port to flush the syrup port disconnect valve, flow control, syrup valve and nozzle with water, and there is structure to prevent flow of flush water into the syrup supply line. A method of flushing a post-mix valve has the steps of connecting the water line to the syrup line and flushing the syrup valve and nozzle with water from the beverage water supply. An alternative flush valve has structure for neutralizing the syrup pressure so that syrup pressure cannot open the flush valve if and when water pressure drops, and a lever type flush actuator behind the dispensing actuator lever enables easy flushing by squeezing the two levers together with the thumb and finger of one hand.

A beverage dispensing station has a chassis mounted on a panel of a dispensing machine, a dispensing head on the chassis, dispensing actuators mounted on the panel, selector buttons mounted to the panel and pivotally suspended on a horizontal axis hinge with there being one button for each actuator, a bracket on the chassis which has a ledge for restraining the buttons and a flange for flow controls and a clamp for beverage lines, and a cover removably mounted to the chassis; the cover is removable for access to the flow controls and the bracket is forwardly deflectable for releasing the buttons and enabling removal of valve elements from the preferred actuator which is a pneumatic valve.

A pneumatically powerable single action fluid pump has a housing, an improved diaphragm assembly dividing the housing into fluidly discrete propellant and pumping chambers, a fluid inlet and outlet in the pumping chamber, a fluid port to the propellant chamber and a spring motor biasing the diaphragm assembly in a direction away from the pumping chamber side of the housing; the diaphragm assembly includes a perforate rigid diaphragm plate, an elongate motor stem connected to the plate, a contiguous elastomeric diaphragm having an imperforate front layer covering a front side of the plate and stem, a rear layer on a rear side of the plate, pins in the plate perforations and between and adjoining the diaphragm layers, and a bellows section to the outside of the plate. The spring motor biases the diaphragm to a position in close proximity to the fluid port of the propellant chamber in the absence of propellant therein against a plurality of spacer ribs. The spacer ribs permit an even and rapid distribution of propellant into the propellant chamber to drive the diaphragm assembly against the biasing action of the spring motor toward the pumping chamber.

A post-mix carbonated beverage dispenser has an exterior cabinet, a base dividing the interior of the cabinet into first and second discrete compartments with all of the refrigeration system being in the first compartment, a drawer trackway and pull-out slide drawer in the second compartment, a fluid pressure powerable water pump and fluid pressure powerable syrup pumps fixedly mounted onto the slide drawer, flexible tubing connecting the pumps to a source of propellant gas, and further flexible tubing fluidly connecting the pumps to the refrigeration system and to a dispensing nozzle; the slide drawer with its pumps and tubing are normally visually concealed within the cabinet and are withdrawable out of the cabinet without disconnection of the tubing and while operative, to an alternative position providing substantially unobstructed access to all of the pumps and accessories upon the slide drawer.

A latch has a central C-shaped clamping member with a latching slot therein, to each side of the clamping member is a handle, and a flange having an aperture for rotatable journaling of the latch; the latch is symmetrical about the centerline of the clamping member and is formed of a contiguous piece of sheet metal with the clamping member being two layers of metal folded against each other; a latch mechanism utilizing this latch has two discrete structure members, a pair of apertures in each structure member, a pin rotatably fastening the latch to one aperture, a pilot on the pin with the pilot being registrable with a corresponding aperture on the other structure, the pilot and pin are interchangeable in either aperature enabling journaling of the latch from either end, the swinging end of the latch can be locked by placement of a lock pin in the otherwise unused latch journal and structure member apertures, and there is a guide ramp on either side of the clamping member for guiding the structure members together.

A carbonator has a pressure vessel, a nozzle for introducing water and carbon dioxide into the vessel, a water level control including a reed switch and a magnetic float for sensing the level of water and operating the reed switch; a novel housing encloses the level control and provides a unidirectional fluidically affected delay in sensing and control response to a rising water level during filling of the carbonator; the housing has a water chamber which encloses the level sensing float, a water inlet into the water chamber near the level of a maximum desired water level in the vessel, a water outlet from the bottom of the water chamber, and a check valve in the water outlet for allowing flow of water out of the water chamber and for precluding flow of water into the water chamber from the water outlet.

A beverage dispensing machine has an exterior cabinet and a beverage preparation and dispensing apparatus mounted within the cabinet; the cabinet has a base having a bottom, short side and rear panels of the same height, a cantilevered tall side panel and a structural cross member connecting the top of the short side panel to the tall side panel; a lockable cabinet door of the same height as the tall side panel is pivotally hinged to the tall side panel; a removable cabinet top cap is removably mounted on top of the base and has a top panel, tall and short side panels which are atop of the short and tall base side panels respectively, a front faceplate above the cabinet door and cup dispenser tubes projecting through the face plate; fasteners inside of the cabinet normally secure the top cap to the base and the fasteners are accessible when the door is opened for releasing the top cap from the base; the beverage dispensing apparatus is a module mounted to the cross member and is above the level of the base short side and rear panels and when the top cap is removed, the dispensing apparatus is directly accessible from the front, rear, side and top for service and/or replacement.

Electric air conditioner for electronic enclosures

An air conditioner for being mounted to the wall of an enclosure box is disclosed, the air conditioner having a cabinet, a refrigeration chassis mounted in the cabinet and having a L-shaped frame attached to and dividing the cabinet into first and second chambers with a compressor and condenser in the first chamber and an evaporator in the second chamber, the cabinet has a condenser fan ducted into a screen covered exhaust plenum at the top of the cabinet and the second chamber has a fan for blowing cold air from the evaporator coil into the enclosure, an inlet plenum in the back of the cabinet is provided for drawing hot air from the enclosure and there is a filter holder on the cabinet for holding a filter of twice the area of a condenser air inlet with a filter being turnable end for end in the holder for being used twice.
