Condensation curable poly(fluoroorgano)siloxane-poly(silarylene)siloxane block copolymer compositions having a glass transition temperature not exceeding about &minus;54&deg; C. and excellent solvent resistance have been found useful as sealants. Polyalkoxysilylorgano compounds, such as 1,4-bis&lsqb;trimethoxysilyl(ethyl)&rsqb;benzene have been found to be effective as cross-linkers.

Copolymer sealant compositions and method for making

The invention relates to a polyestercarbonate polymer which comprises repeating units of a mono-unsaturated aliphatic dicarboxylic acid having about 12 to about 20 carbon atoms. Preferred dicarboxylic acids for incorporation into the polymer are cis-octadec-9-enedioic acid or trans-octadec-9-enedioic acid. The use of these mono-unsaturated acids results in polymers with lower glass transition temperatures, and enhances processibility.

Formic acid is dry mixed with the contaminated material and an external heating means is used at temperatures of about 250.degree.-450.degree. C. for 10-50 minutes to drive the halogentated organic compounds from the soil.

A method is disclosed for the removal of halogenated organic contaminants from particulate material by admixing a monocarboxylic acid with the particulate material, and passing a vapor phase of steam through the material to substantially remove the halogenated organic contaminant.

Method to remove halogenated hydrocarbons from particulate matter

Contaminated material is treated with heat and steam to remove halogenated organic compounds from the material. The heating temperature can be lowered by admixing an additive with the contaminated material. A short passage of steam at a flow rate of about at least 0.5 pounds of water by weight per minute per ton of soil immediately following the heating and holding stage, substantially removes the halogenated organic contaminants to below ten parts per million in the treated material.

A method for the removal of halogenated organic contaminants from particulate material by admixing an additive selected from the group consisting of a sodium salt and an ammonium salt with the particulate material, and passing a vapor phase of steam through the material to substantially remove the halogenated organic contaminant.

Cyclic polycarbonate oligomers are polymerized to linear polycarbonates by the action of a salt prepared by the reaction of a triarylphosphine or triaryl phosphite with an organic disulfide, preferably an aryl disulfide. Conversion of cyclic polycarbonate oligomers to linear polycarbonates

Branched polycarbonates are prepared by melt equilibration of aromatic cyclic polycarbonate oligomes with a polyhydric phenol having more than two hydroxy groups per molecule, preferably 1,1,1-tris-(4-hydroxyphenyl)ethane, in the presence of a carbonate equilibration catalyst, preferably tetrabutylammonium tetraphenylborate. In an additional embodiment of the invention, a linear aromatic polycarbonate is added to the reaction mixture. Branched polycarbonates prepared according to this invention have high melt strength and high shear sensitivity characteristics and are useful in extrusion and injection molding processing applications and particularly useful in blow molding applications for preparing relatively large articles and panels.
