Apparatus and methods for dispensing small beads of a viscous, mixed fluid material formed by first and second viscous fluids. The apparatus includes first and second metering rods for moving in a reciprocating manner, such that the first metering rod extends into a first fluid passageway, and the second metering rod extends into a second fluid passageway. A mixing passage communicates with the first and second fluid passageways to receive the first and second viscous fluids from the first and second fluid passageways. A dispensing passageway is in fluid communication with the mixing passage, and dispenses a small bead of viscous, mixed fluid material formed by the mixed first and second viscous fluids. A control retracts the first and second metering rods to prevent drooling of the viscous, mixed fluid material from the dispensing passageway after a dispensing cycle.

Apparatus and methods for dispensing small beads of viscous material

A cartridge dispenser generally includes an actuator, cartridge carrier, a removable cartridge, a dispenser head, and a cartridge piston. A sensor is configured to sense data and provide feedback data for controlling the actuator. The dispenser head is a multi-piece assembly allowing removal of an outlet flow tube for maintenance purposes. The tube may be a resilient tube and pinch valves are provided for fluid flow control from the dispenser.

A gear pump for metering resins is provided having the surfaces of interacting internal metal parts coated with a metal-based material to prevent seizing of the interacting moving parts as a result of resin curing therebetween. Parts made from such materials as heat treated carbon steel and stainless steel are preferably coated with a nitride, carbide or oxide of such metals as tungsten, titanium, aluminum and chromium at a thickness of between about 2-5 microns. The coating is applied to the surface of any part that comes in heated contact with the surface of another relatively moving part. The resulting gear pump exhibits high wear resistance, longevity, and low maintenance requirements.

A method and apparatus for degassing a high viscosity fluid wherein a vacuum chamber is oriented vertically and adapted for receiving a fluid at its top end and discharging it from a reservoir at its bottom end, the chamber having an assembly having a slotted wide-mouthed nozzle and a channel slide member mounted within the top end so as to receive a fluid fed into the chamber. The nozzle is adapted for spreading the fluid onto the surface of the slide member which is angularly positioned downwardly towards the reservoir such that fluid on the slide member surface exhibits laminar flow as it moves downwardly. A vacuum drawn on the chamber effects a release of any gaseous materials contained within the fluid as it moves down the slide surface and into the reservoir where it may be drawn out for application by one or more nozzles.

Method and apparatus for degassing high viscosity fluids

A metering unit (12) is attached to the robot (10) for providing two polymeric materials to a dispenser/mixer module (14) attached to the end of the robot arm (16). The metering unit includes piston (44) located concentrically about the shaft (42) of a dual actuating piston assembly (36) for providing the two polymeric materials in a fixed ratio. A variable rate dispenser (62) is provided for compensating for changes in robot velocity and/or viscosity changes.

Apparatus for mixing and dispensing two chemically reactive materials

A nozzle for use with an adhesive spray apparatus includes a nozzle having an extended tip and an air cap having a diverging air passage terminating at an outlet concentric about the tip end. An adhesive outlet at the tip end is extended beyond the air outlet. Channels for swirling the air in the cap about the nozzle are provided in the cap around the nozzle. Highly viscous adhesives are sprayed in a uniform pattern without adhesive accumulation on the nozzle and disruption of pattern.

A method of applying a clear glass primer material and then a black glass primer material onto the marginal edge of a windshield and/or rear window of a vehicle, and for applying a black metal primer onto the mating body flanges of the vehicle, in which an airless, cross cut-type flat pattern nozzle is employed to discharge such primer materials at pressures substantially below the normal pressures at which airless spray nozzles are operated to produce an atomized stream. A triangular-shaped liquid film emission of the primer materials is produced by such an airless spray nozzle, operated at low pressures, which forms a well defined pattern on both the windshield and the associated body flanges without splashing or overspray onto the surrounding surfaces.

A system for dispensing multiple discrete streams of a high viscosity liquid material, and particularly, systems such as those for applying sealants to the seams of an automobile body on a production line. The system is provided with a multi-speed pump for supplying the viscous liquid from a reservoir at high pressure to a distribution manifold from which it is distributed at regulated rates to a plurality of extrusion guns through drop lines from the manifold. A motor speed control which is settable to a number of predetermined motor operating speeds which selects the speed of the multi-speed pump in response to the combination of guns which is activated, so that the dispensing rate can remain the same regardless of which other guns are activated. Regulators which include volumetric metering pumps are included in the drop lines at each of the guns, with controls coordinated with the motor speed control.

Multi-station viscous liquid distribution system

A work-performing manipulator robot having a base, a turret rotatable on the base about a vertical axis, a vertical arm rotatably mounted on the turret for rotation about a horizontal axis at a shoulder joint, and a horizontal arm rotatably mounted on the vertical arm for rotation about a horizontal axis at an elbow joint. The mounting of and angular position transducer for the turret/base joint is such that electrical cables and hydraulic fluid hoses can be coupled through apertures in the turret and the base to a channel in the vertical arm. The vertical arm is driven by a cylinder/piston assembly wherein the cylinder is pivotally attached to the vertical arm and the rod is pivotally attached to the turret, reducing the relative travel between the cylinder and the vertical arm. A servo valve for each of the armactuating cylinders is mounted on the side of the vertical arm and pivotally attached to the arm about the same pivot point as the associated cylinder so that the servo valve and the cylinder may be coupled together by rigid fluid conduits without relative movement between the servo valve and the cylinder.
