Methods for the synthesis of N-substituted pyridinium compounds by using an N-heteroaryl substituted pyridinium salt (Zincke salt) and reacting it with a nucleophilic amine are provided. Novel purine-substituted pyridyl compounds, which may be useful reagents in the above reaction, are also disclosed.

The current invention restates substituted nitroindole nucleosides as both terminal as well as internal building blocks of labeled oligonucleotide probes for the detection, analysis and quantitation of nucleic acids. The substituent comprises a linker and a detectable group or a linker and a reactive group for post synthesis coupling. These modified nucleosides grant access to a wide application area. These new substituted nitroindole nucleosides can be used as labeling reagents for the facile preparation of, e.g., optimized hybridization probes, simple probes, TAQMAN-probes or molecular beacon probes.

The present invention relates to novel chemiluminescent compounds, to a method for synthesizing these compounds, to derivatives and conjugates comprising these compounds, to the use of these compounds or conjugates thereof in chemiluminescence based assays, especially in immunoassays.

The present invention concerns a labelling reagent in which the label is bound via an amide bond and a linker to a residue of the molecule which is essentially characterized in that the N atom of the amide bond and the label are linked together directly by a covalent bond. In particular these are phosphoramidites or reactive supports suitable for nucleic acid synthesis. The invention also concerns processes for the production of such supports from suitable precursors.
