A burner for an exhaust gas tract that can be flowed through by exhaust gas of an internal combustion engine includes a combustion chamber in which a mixture of air and liquid fuel is to be ignited and combusted and an inner swirl chamber that can be flowed through by a first part of the air and causes a turbulent flow of the first part of the air. The swirl chamber has a first outflow opening that can be flowed through by the first part of the air flowing through the inner swirl chamber and via which the first part of the air can be removed from the inner swirl chamber. The burner further includes an introduction element that can be flowed through by the liquid fuel and via which the fuel can be introduced into the inner swirl chamber.

A piston for a reciprocating piston machine includes a piston crown, a piston recess, and an annular groove formed in the piston crown. The annular groove extends in a radial direction of the piston outwards and a cross-section of the annular groove has a half-teardrop shape. The half-teardrop shape has a first radius and a second radius where the second radius is directly contiguous with the first radius outwards in the radial direction of the piston and where the second radius is greater than the first radius.

A burner for an exhaust gas tract that can be flowed through by exhaust gas of an internal combustion engine includes a combustion chamber, in which a mixture comprising air and a liquid fuel is to be ignited and thus to be combusted, and an inner swirl chamber that can be flowed through by a first part of the air. The inner swirl chamber has a first swirl generation device via which a turbulent flow of the first part of the air can be caused and a first outflow opening that can be flowed through by the first part of the air flowing through the inner swirl chamber. The first part of the air being able to be removed from the inner swirl chamber via the first outflow opening.

The piston has an annularly peripheral piston stage which is arranged axially recessed in the piston compared with an annularly peripheral piston crown and which merges via an annularly jet splitter contour into a piston hollow arranged axially recessed in the piston in relation to the piston stage. An injector is allocated to the cylinder and via the injector several injection jets are simultaneously injected directly into the combustion chamber in a star shape for a combustion process.

A method for operating an internal combustion engine involves using an injection valve to post-inject fuel into at least one cylinder of the internal combustion engine in order to help regenerate a particulate filter that is arranged in an exhaust system of the internal combustion engine, downstream of an oxidation catalyst. A closing moment of a discharge valve of a cylinder of the internal combustion engine is advanced when the temperature of the oxidation catalyst is in a first temperature range, and the post-injections are performed when the temperature of the oxidation catalyst is in a second temperature range, an upper limit of the first temperature range having a lower value that an upper limit of the second temperature range.

A combustion process with auto-ignition for direct-injection internal combustion engines involves dividing injection jets at a jet divider contour into a first partial quantity, a second partial quantity, and third partial quantities. The first partial quantity enters into the piston cavity, the second partial quantity enters via the piston step into a region between the piston crown and the cylinder head, and the third partial quantities, starting from the respective injection jet, spread out on both sides in the peripheral direction in opposite directions along the piston step, and the respective third partial quantities collide with one another between two adjacent injection jets within the piston step and are deflected radially inwardly. The first partial quantity and the second partial quantity form a first combustion front and a second combustion front, and the partial quantities which in each case are jointly deflected inwardly form a third combustion front radially inwardly into a gap between the injection jets. The injection jets are deflected upstream from the jet divider contour in the direction of the piston by means of a resultant flow formed essentially from a swirl, a squish gap flow, and a jet flow.

A fuel injection diesel internal-combustion engine, having a fuel injection nozzle and having a spring chamber for the pressure spring acting upon the nozzle needle. The spring chamber is constructed as a closed chamber without a leak oil connection and forms a space which is under a fuel pressure. The spring chamber fills with fuel, by way of a slide guide for the pressure linkage of the nozzle needle constructed as a throttling point. As the fuel pressure in the spring chamber rises above an operating pressure corresponding to the control position of the injection pump for the defined driving condition, the delivery time of the pump is prolonged for compensating the lowering of the injection quantity connected with the pressure rise in the spring chamber.

In a fuel injection system for a multi-cylinder internal combustion engine with a cam-controlled high-pressure injection pump for transporting the fuel to a common fuel line (common rail), which acts as high-pressure storage and from which injection lines lead to injection nozzles and which possesses a solenoid valve control that determines the start of the feeding of the fuel, in every exposed fuel line which is an injection line between the common fuel line and an injection nozzle, a solenoid valve which controls the starting point for feeding fuel to the engine is arranged in close proximity to the common fuel line.
