Modulation of TGF-.beta. by TGF-.beta. type III receptor polypeptides

The mammalian TGF-.beta. type II receptor has been cloned. Recombinant TGF-.beta.-binding receptor polypeptides are useful to alter the binding of TGF-.beta. to its receptors and to modulate the effects of TGF-.beta. in vivo.

The invention provides cDNAs encoding the human and rodent transforming growth factor-beta (TGF-.beta.) type III receptors. Nucleic acids encoding the mammalian receptors and soluble receptor polypeptides derived from them, expression systems for their production, and the polypeptides per se also provided.

Recombinant production of TGF-.beta. type III receptor (betaglycan)

The mammalian TGF-.beta. type II receptor has been cloned. Nucleic acids encoding full-length and soluble receptor polypeptides, as well as fragments of such nucleic acids useful as probes, are provided. Corresponding vectors, transformed host cells, and their use to produce recombinant TGF-.beta. receptors are also described.

The mammalian TGF-.beta. type II receptor has been cloned. Recombinant full-length and soluble receptor polypeptides, as well as TGF-.beta.-binding fragments of such polypeptides, are provided.
