A medical imaging system is provided. The medical imaging system includes a patient positioning table and a patient examination area that is open on at least three sides and accessible from a front side. The patient positioning table is able to be moved into the patient examination area. At least one positioning motor is arranged on a rear side and is separated from the front side by a rear wall element. The at least one positioning motor is operable to adjust the position of a framework. The patient positioning table is disposed on the framework.

A trolley for transporting a patient includes a couch for the patient, an extendable and retractable component, and a coupling device on the extendable and retractable component for coupling the trolley to a medical apparatus. The couch and the extendable and retractable component are arranged such that extending or retracting the extendable and retractable component when the trolley is coupled to the medical apparatus (NMR) causes a relative movement of the couch with respect to the medical apparatus.

An expanded diagnostic NMR installation with operating functionality contains an NMR imaging apparatus with a patient bed for transporting a patient into an imaging volume of the NMR imaging apparatus. An operating column for receiving the patient bed is arranged next to the NMR imaging apparatus at a fixed distance therefrom along the longitudinal direction of motion of the patient bed. The operating column contains a swinging mechanism for rotating or pivoting the patient bed around a vertical axis.

Guiding for a therapeutic head for a medical shock wave generator includes a curved rail and a support for a plurality of rollers; the rail is provided with a plurality of grooves, and stainless steel wires are inserted in these grooves and project therefrom to serve as tracks in that the rollers run on the wires; in one version (FIG. 2, 3) the therapeutic head is mounted to the rail while the roller support is stationary; in an alternate version (FIG. 4 ) the relation is reversed.

Curved guiding of a lithotripsy head

A spark gap unit that is easy to manufacture and significantly lighter than previously used spark gap units for generating underwater shock waves, particularly for non-invasive lithotrispy, has an internal conductor with an inner electrode, an insulation which at least partially envelops the internal conductor, and an external conductor with a bow and an outer electrode. The internal conductor is significantly shorter than the external conductor, and the external conductor at the rearward end of the spark gap unit projects beyond the internal conductor. The internal conductor, the insulation, and the external conductor are coaxially arranged. An outside diameter of the internal conductor is relatively small in comparison to an inside diameter of the external conductor. The spark gap unit has a hollow space inside the insulation, this hollow space being open in the direction of a rearward end of the spark gap unit. In the opposite direction from the rearward end, the hollow space is bounded by the internal conductor itself and the envelopment of the internal conductor by the insulation.
