A laminate comprising at least one non-fibrous adhesive layer positioned between a plurality of substrates, the non-fibrous adhesive layer comprising a stereo reticulated, continuous, non-fibrous matrix formed from a polymeric material. A process for producing such a stereo reticulated non-fibrous adhesive matrix comprising: a) blending an adhesive polymer with a blowing agent, b) melting the adhesive polymer/blowing agent blend while passing the molten polymer/blowing agent blend through an extruder to a shaping die and thereby producing a non-fibrous extrudate, c) cooling, drawing and orienting the non-fibrous extrudate, and thereby producing a continuous, stereo reticulated non-fibrous adhesive matrix.

Non-fibrous adhesive matrix and laminate formed therefrom

A method wherein there is provided a source of fiber forming material, with said fiber forming material being pumped into a die having a plurality of spinnerets about its periphery. The die is rotated at a predetermined adjustable speed, whereby the liquid is expelled from the die so as to form fibers. It is preferred that the fiber forming material be cooled as it is leaving the holes in the spinnerets during drawdown. The fibers may be used to produce fabrics, fibrous tow and yarn through appropriate take-up systems. The pumping system provides a pumping action whereby a volumetric quantity of liquid is forced into the rotational system independent of viscosity or the back pressure generated by the spinnerets and the manifold system of the spinning head, thus creating positive displacement feeding. Positive displacement feeding may be accomplished by the extruder alone or with an additional pump of the type generally employed for this purpose. A rotary union is provided for positive sealing purposes during the pressure feeding of the fiber forming material into the rotating die.

A process and apparatus for producing a mixture of polymeric phases wherein a plurality of fluid material having different phases are fed into a phase programmer, and said phase programmer separately and sequentially injects pulses of said polymeric materials into a reservoir. The material may be passed through an extrudate shaping device so as to provide a moasic structure comprising an agglomeration of a plurality of said polymeric phases, each of which phases are substantially non-continuous in any dimension and which are interrupted with substantially no intermixing between phases.

Fibrillator

An oriented thermoplastic sheet is pleated and an adhesive and backing is applied to one face thereof. The other face is then pleat fibrillated to a desired depth. Both faces may have adhesive and backing applied thereto with the structure being centrally cut parallel to the faces. The extending edges of the sheets on the two structures are then fibrillated to a desired depth.
