A yarn traversing apparatus is disclosed, which is adapted for use in winding a running yarn to form a cross wound package. The traversing apparatus includes a yarn guide bar, and a pair of oppositely rotating rotors, and the rotors include radiating arms which define two closely adjacent planes of rotation. The rotors are mounted for rotation about offset axes, so that the arms sweep across the guide bar in opposite directions to define the yarn traverse stroke. The rotors are rotatably driven by a gear drive system which includes a transmission shaft, and the transmission shaft and one of the rotors are mounted in eccentric bushings which permit the meshing gears to be adjusted so as to eliminate backlash.

Yarn traversing apparatus

The present yarn winding apparatus and method includes a yarn traversing mechanism, a pair of rotatably supported winding spindles, spaced apart main and auxiliary contact rolls, and a rotatable turret supporting said winding spindles in opposed relationship thereon. The turret rotates the winding spindles for successive movement into an operational position where one of the winding spindles is in engagement with the main contact roll and the other winding spindle is positioned out of engagement with both rolls and in position for yarn packages to be doffed therefrom. The turret also rotates the winding spindles into a yarn transfer position at which the winding spindle with full yarn packages thereon is in engagement with the auxiliary contact roll so that the yarn may be transferred from the full yarn packages to the empty tubes on the other winding spindle. In one embodiment, the spindles are rotatably driven by the contact rolls, and in another embodiment the contact rolls monitor the winding speed of the spindles and the spindles are rotatably driven by separate drive motors.

Yarn winding apparatus and method

A yarn traverse apparatus is disclosed for winding a running yarn onto a rotating package, and which includes a first traverse means comprising a guide rail, and a pair of oppositely rotating arms mounted for rotation about closely adjacent parallel, or coaxial axes. A second traverse means is also provided which comprises a grooved roller positioned between the first traverse means and the yarn package being wound. In order to achieve a precise guidance of the yarn onto the package, the first yarn traverse means defines a guide stroke which extends beyond each of the ends of the traverse stroke defined by the grooved roller. In addition, the guide rail and/or the arms include means for guiding the yarn adjacent each of the ends of the guide stroke such that the yarn is free to rapidly rebound a short distance toward the center of the stroke, and is then restrained during movement through a second traverse distance.

Yarn traverse apparatus

A method and apparatus is disclosed for producing a spun yarn composed of an inner substantially untwisted core having fibers spirally wrapped about the surface thereof. In a specifically illustrated embodiment, a yarn of staple fibers is advanced along a path of travel, while being laterally deflected by contact with each of three separate rotating discs, and so as to produce a rotating balloon which serves to open the yarn and loosen and separate fibers on the surface of the yarn. Subsequently, the advancing yarn is subjected to a false twisting operation, which serves to wrap the loosened fibers about the advancing yarn.

Method and apparatus for spinning yarn and resulting yarn product

A yarn traverse apparatus and method are disclosed for winding a running yarn onto a rotating package, and wherein at each end portion of the traverse stroke there is provided a guide rail, and a pair of oppositely rotating arms mounted for rotation about closely adjacent parallel, or coaxial axes. One arm moves the yarn along the guide rail and toward the end of the stroke, and the other arm returns the yarn toward the center of the stroke. The guide rail and/or the arms include means for guiding the yarn adjacent each of the ends of the stroke such that the yarn is free to rebound a short distance toward the center of the stroke, and is then restrained in such movement, and so that proper engagement of the yarn by the extremity of the arm moving into the traverse stroke is assured.

Yarn traverse apparatus and method

A yarn winding apparatus is disclosed which is characterized by the ability to wind a plurality of running yarns onto a corresponding number of bobbins mounted on a common support spindle, and wherein the bobbins may be closely spaced apart to thereby permit the required length of the support spindle to be minimized. The apparatus comprises a plurality of side by side traversing assemblies extending along the length of the bobbin support spindle, with each traversing assembly comprising a yarn guide bar and a pair of oppositely rotating rotors. The rotors are each composed of two oppositely directed radial arms, which define two closely adjacent planes of rotation. The two rotors of each assembly are mounted for rotation about off-set axes, and such that the arms sweep across the guide bar in opposite directions to define the traverse stroke. Also, the two axes of all of the traversing assemblies are offset in the same direction, with the corresponding axes of all of the adjacent traversing assemblies being equally spaced apart a predetermined distance, and such that the extremities of the arms of adjacent traversing assemblies define circles upon rotation thereof which overlap in both of the planes of rotation.

Apparatus for winding a plurality of yarns

A yarn winding apparatus is disclosed which is characterized by the ability to wind a plurality of running yarns onto a corresponding number of bobbins mounted on a common support spindle, and wherein the bobbins may be closely spaced apart to thereby permit the required length of the support spindle to be minimized. The apparatus comprises a plurality of side by side traversing assemblies extending along the length of the support spindle, with each traversing assembly comprising a yarn guide bar and a pair of oppositely rotating rotors. The rotors include arms which define two closely adjacent planes of rotation, and the two rotors of each assembly are mounted for rotation about offset axes and so that the arms sweep across the guide bar in opposite directions to define the traverse stroke. The rotors of adjacent traversing assemblies are mounted so that the planes of rotation of the arms of the two rotors are respectively coincident, with the circles defined by the rotating arms in each plane overlapping each other. Also, the corresponding axes of adjacent traversing assemblies are offset in opposite directions.

A method and apparatus is disclosed for serially winding a high speed running yarn onto bobbins without yarn stoppage between bobbin changes, and without loss of yarn. The method and apparatus includes at least two bobbin receiving chucks which are adapted to be serially delivered to a winding position. When the first bobbin becomes full, it moves laterally away from the yarn traverse guide, and the chuck with an empty bobbin and an associated yarn catching notch is moved into the yarn path of travel while being rotated, and with the notch being positioned axially outside the yarn traverse stroke along the empty bobbin. The separated full bobbin, which continues to receive the yarn, is then moved axially so that an end portion is aligned with the plane of the yarn catching notch on the empty bobbin. An auxiliary yarn guide is then moved to engage the yarn and terminate its traverse. The auxiliary guide then moves the yarn into the plane of the yarn catching notch, and so that the yarn is wound on the axially extended end portion of the full bobbin, until the notch catches the yarn, at which point the yarn commences to be wound upon the rotating empty bobbin. The auxiliary yarn guide then releases the yarn so that it is caught and again traversed by the traverse guide.

A winding device for winding threads on one or more bobbin tubes releasably held on a rotatable chuck means with improved thread catching and gripping means, preferably in combination with associated thread severing means, in order to make a thread changeover from a completed bobbin to an empty bobbin tube without thread loss and without thread ends or residues being caught and retained on the chuck.

Method and apparatus for winding yarn

A process for the production of a core/mantle yarn, in which a core thread is continuously conducted through a spinning zone in a gap formed between two adjacent and oppositely moving surfaces; staple fibers are fed into the path of the core thread and come into frictional contact with the moving surfaces in said zone to spin the staple fibers about the core thread; the core thread is preferably stretched during the spinning in order to bring about a defined, predetermined elastic stretch of the core thread in the spinning zone; and the core thread has a roughened surface which may be obtained by using a staple fiber yarn or thread obtained by texturizing, weaving, twisting, etc. The invention is especially characterized by an improved adherence of the fibers of the mantle to the core thread by pre-coating the core thread with an adhesive, or preferably by preapplying colloidal silicic acid to the core thread.

Process for spinning of core/mantle yarns and yarn products

Apparatus for the open-end spinning or round-about spinning of a twisted thread from individual, discrete fibers using a known combination of paired rollers or drums, preferably air-permeable, perforated rollers or sieve drums cooperated with suction means within the rollers or drums to produce a line of thread formation extending longitudinally within the wedge-shaped nip formed by the rollers or drums, and further including a feed channel to supply individual fibers into the nip for twisting by the rollers or drums, and means to take off the twisted thread at one end of the nip. The apparatus is adjusted according to the invention to widen the nip in the plane of the thread forming line and in the direction of the thread take-off. Two equivalent adjustments of the nip lead to a spun thread of higher strength and better uniformity.

Apparatus for open-end or round-about spinning of a thread

A process and apparatus for producing a thread from staple fibers by the open-end or round-about spinning methods wherein the individual fibers are transported by an air stream to the thread forming zone in the nip between two air-permeable rollers with suction applied from within the rollers, characterized by the use of a fiber-transporting air stream directed at an angle of impingement with reference to the thread forming zone of less than 45.degree., preferably 10.degree. or even less, with a vector of movement of the air stream being counter to the thread draw-off direction. An improved thread or yarn product is obtained by this process, being more compact and free of loose fibers.
