A method for heating a low temperature carbonization drum includes generating a low temperature carbonization gas in the drum; combusting a partial flow of the low temperature carbonization gas for generating a heating gas; conducting the heating gas in a heating gas circuit; preheating the cooled heating gas flowing out of the drum; and then returning a controllable partial flow of the cooled heating gas to the drum while re-admixing the controllable partial flow with the heating gas. A device for heating the low temperature carbonization drum includes a heating gas circuit having an inflow line and an outflow line connected to the drum generating low temperature carbonization gas; the heating gas circuit having a combustion chamber for receiving a partial flow of the low temperature carbonization gas from the drum and generating a heating gas to be delivered to the drum; and the heating gas circuit having a heat exchanger connected upstream of the combustion chamber for preheating the heating gas being cooled in the drum. A low temperature carbonization/combustion plant includes a combustion chamber of a combustion system receiving a remaining flow of the low temperature carbonization gas generated in the drum. The combustion system produces steam to be supplied to the heat exchanger.

In a process and an apparatus for purifying flammable gas, in particular low-temperature carbonization gas, the gas is scrubbed and discharged as pure gas and condensate. The condensate is distilled in a distillation unit. Volatile constituents are admixed to the pure gas, so that the calorific value of the latter is increased. The non-volatile constituents are discharged. The non-volatile constituents can be fed to a low-temperature carbonization drum and carbonized therein at low temperature.

Process and apparatus for purifying flammable gas

A heating chamber or low-temperature carbonization drum has an interior receiving bulk material or trash and has a longitudinal axis about which the heating chamber or drum is rotatable. A number of heating tubes through which a heating gas can flow in a given direction, are disposed in the interior of the heating chamber or drum, are oriented approximately parallel to one another, and have an end region as seen in the given flow direction. Turbulators are disposed inside the heating tubes in the end region.

A method for processing waste includes low-temperature carbonizing one portion of the waste creating low-temperature carbonization gas and low-temperature carbonization residue. A carbon-rich fraction is separated off from the low-temperature carbonization residue. At least some of the carbon-rich fraction of the low-temperature carbonization residue is supplied as fuel for a support flame for burning another portion of the waste. A plant for processing waste includes a revolving tubular kiln in which a burner is disposed. A low-temperature carbonization drum has an outlet side communicating with a low-temperature carbonization gas line and a separator device for solid low-temperature carbonization residue. A line carries a carbon-rich fraction of the low-temperature carbonization residue from the separator device to the burner.

Method and plant for carbonizing and burning waste

A heating chamber for solid material, preferably a low-temperature carbonization drum for waste, is rotatable about its longitudinal axis and is equipped with a number of heating tubes that are disposed in an interior space and are aligned approximately parallel to one another. In order to ensure that only fine material can collect between the heating tubes and the inner wall surface of the heating chamber, the heating tubes, as viewed in cross-section, are disposed in a virtually closed row along the wall. Dummy tubes which are preferably easy to remove and preferably have the same diameter as the heating tubes, are located in this row, which may be circular.

Rotatable heating chamber for solid material

A low-temperature carbonization drum for waste includes many heating tubes located in the interior. The tubes are each secured by one end to a first end plate and by the other end to a second end plate. At least one support location for supporting the heating tubes is provided between the two end plates to prevent them from sagging. Each support location is divided into at least two spaced-apart partial supports, each with one bracket configuration. Each bracket configuration includes a plurality of support brackets that are located in the same plane as one another. The support brackets are located one after another (are staggered) and are rotationally offset from one another. As a result, the solid material in the waste can be transported largely unimpeded past the support locations.

A plant for thermal waste disposal includes a pyrolysis reactor having a first heating device for indirectly heating the waste and a second heating device for directly heating the waste within the pyrolysis reactor. The pyrolysis reactor converts the waste into low-temperature carbonization gas and solid pyrolysis residue. The low-temperature carbonization gas and the solid pyrolysis residue, possibly after passing through a treatment device, are fed to a high-temperature reactor for combustion. The first heating device ensures a basal heating of the waste in the pyrolysis reactor. A separate fuel or waste heat from the flue gas of the high-temperature reactor can serve the purpose of ensuring the basal heating. Supplementary heating is provided as required with the aid of the second heating device by providing an air feed into the interior of the pyrolysis reactor. A process is also provided for operating the plant for thermal waste disposal.

Plant for thermal waste disposal and process for operating such a plant

A waste conveyor includes a conveyor channel. A feed shaft is connected to the conveyor channel. A worm is disposed in the longitudinal direction of the conveyor channel. The worm has a shaft with an axis. A first metal cutter is disposed at an edge of a portion of the worm and is curved relative to the axis of the shaft. A second metal cutter is disposed at a portion of the conveyor channel, is curved relative to the axis of the shaft and has a radius of curvature being greater than the radius of curvature of the first metal cutter. The two metal cutters are disposed side by side and approximately concentric to the shaft, at a predetermined rotary position of the worm.

Waste conveyor

A carbonization apparatus for carbonizing material which includes metal parts, as for instance waste material with elongated metal parts, such as metal wires and metal bands. A residue discharge pipe has a discharge port formed in an end face thereof. Carbonization residue is discharged through the discharge port. The residue discharge pipe rotates about its longitudinal axis. The metal parts are entrained with a device which is disposed in a region of the discharge port and which rotates with the residue discharge pipe. In the alternative, the entrainment device or devices are disposed inside a carbonization drum. A stationary bar-shaped member cooperates with the entraining device to tear the metal parts discharging from the discharge opening.

Carbonization apparatus

A combustion chamber for combusting a substance includes a burner and at least three successively disposed parts including a primary chamber, a secondary chamber and an ash discharge chamber. The burner is associated with and conducts a first air flow to the primary chamber. The primary chamber has an inlet for conducting a second air flow for substoichiometric combustion of a substance to be combusted at a temperature below an ash softening point and without clinker flow. The secondary chamber has an inlet for conducting a third air flow for brief, intensive, complete combustion of the substance discharged from the primary chamber with clinker flow, and the secondary chamber has walls and a material lining the walls being resistant to fluid clinker. A process for combusting a substance being at least partially formed of combustible material includes feeding an air flow to the substance for substoichiometrically combusting the substance at a temperature below an ash softening point without clinker flow but with formation of a residue, and subsequently admixing a further air flow with the residue of the substoichiometric combustion for completely combusting the residue and forming flue gas and flowing ash. Prepared pyrolysis residue and incompletely burned gas may be discharged from a pyrolysis reactor as the at least partially combustible material made by low-temperature carbonization of trash in a system for thermal trash disposal.

A plant for thermal waste disposal includes a pyrolysis reactor converting waste into carbonization gas and substantially non-volatile pyrolysis residue and a discharge device connected to the pyrolysis reactor. A combustion chamber operated with an oxygen excess is connected to a carbonization gas discharge fitting of the discharge device for receiving the carbonization gas. A residue sorting device is connected to the pyrolysis residue outlet of the discharge device for sorting out coarser coarse components substantially including non-combustible ingredients such as rocks, glass shards, broken porcelain, and metal parts, from combustible finer coarse components. A transport device connected to the residue sorting device transports the finer coarse components. A grinding apparatus has an inlet side connected to the transport device and a discharge side for feeding the finer coarse components to the combustion chamber after grinding. The combustion chamber maintains combustion gases produced from delivered combustible material for a sufficiently long time at a sufficient temperature level to produce molten slag. The combustion chamber has an outlet for removing the molten slag which is cooled into a glassified form downstream of the outlet of the combustion chamber. A flue gas line leads from the combustion chamber to a chimney.

A valve for shutting off a flow having a housing wherein a plug member is movable between 'on' and 'off' terminal positions by means of a thread; a rotary drive which is switchable off with time delay in the 'off' terminal position of the valve; a resilient member for limiting an increase in torque generated by kinetic energy of the rotary drive in the 'off' terminal position; and a torque control for the rotary drive includes means defining a range of rotation of the rotary drive in both directions of travel thereof, the entire range of rotation corresponding to a stroke of the plug member and being subdivided into a starting range beginning at one terminal position and ending before a new terminal position is reached as well as into the remaining range; the rotary drive having an available starting torque (break-away torque), taking into consideration the tolerance limit of the power supply in the starting range downwardly, which is at least 10% higher than the largest torque applicable by the rotary drive, taking into consideration the tolerance limit of the power supply in the remaining range upwardly.
