A field device has a housing providing EMC-protection. The housing includes a conductive housing core, which is surrounded on all sides by a non-conductive housing jacket secured thereon by force-interlocking, e.g. frictional interlocking, or by material bonding. At least one electrically conductive barrier is placed on and connected with an electrically conducting region of the housing core and divides the interior of the housing into at least two chambers with different degrees of EMC-protection. The barrier contains a passageway, with which at least a first electronic circuit and a second electronic circuit, which are located in different chambers, are contacted with one another. The circuits are contacted by spring contacts against regions of the housing core, which are led through the housing jacket into the interior, wherein transitions to a sensor&#x2014;or lid in the housing by means of screw thread&#x2014;and/or wiping contacts are so arranged that these kinds of components are electrically connected with the housing core and wherein seals of the transitions protect against environmental influences.

A method for a fill level measurement in which a first and/or a second fill substance can be located. A rest position can be ascertained, when the entire amount of each fill substance in the container forms a single layer containing only this fill substance, wherein the first fill substance has a smaller specific weight than the second fill substance, and the two fill substances have different dielectric constants. An electromagnetic signal is sent into the container, wherein a part of the signal is reflected. A capacitance between a capacitive probe and a reference electrode is measured, dependent on the amounts of the fill substances located in the container, and, on the basis of the measured capacitance and the measured travel times for each fill substance present in the container, the rest position of its fill substance upper surface is ascertained.

A method for ascertaining and monitoring the fill level of a medium in a container the method utilizes a fill-level measuring device, wherein, according to the technique of time-domain reflectometry, high-frequency measuring signals are guided via at least one measuring probe in the direction of the medium, reflected on at least one interface of the medium as wanted echo signals or on disturbance locations as disturbance echo signals, and received. The invention relates to an apparatus for determining and/or monitoring the process-variable fill-level of a fill substance in a container. The apparatus of the invention is to satisfy high demands with respect to chemical resistance and/or cleanability, while permitting individual parts to be replaced.
