On a track for electromagnetically levitated vehicles, to adjust and secure side guide rails on a beam-like support member forming the track, after stators are adjusted and fixed to the support member, the side guide rails are held in position relative to the support member. Initially, the guide rails are positioned relative to the track and then are adjusted with respect to a datum plane determined by the lower surfaces of the stators. Next, the guide rails are adjusted horizontally transversely of the track with respect to measuring points fixed to the surface of the support member. Finally, the guide rails are attached to the support member. Apparatus for installing the guide rails includes a plurality of installation truss frames mounting assembly arms for holding the guide rails. Each assembly arm has a holding device for a guide rail and an abutment positionable against a lower surface of the stators. The installation truss frames are supported on a transport frame so that the truss frames can be moved laterally relative to the support member and adjusted in height with respect to the upper surface of the support member. Each installation truss frame supports a measuring device with a measuring head to be brought into coincidence with a measuring point located on the upper surface of the support member.

Method of and apparatus for locating operational surfaces on a track

A railroad railway for rail-mounted vehicles capable of high speed travel includes a track grating formed of rails and ties with the ties partially embedded in a poured-in-place steel reinforced concrete slab. The concrete slab is mounted on a continuous concrete substructure with a separating layer arranged between the slab and substructure. A single layer of steel reinforcement is located in the concrete slab spaced below the ties. The slab is dimensioned so that it serves only for plate-like stiffening of the track grating without any appreciable inherent bending resistance. The slab is secured against longitudinal and transverse displacement of the substructure, while the substructure is dimensioned to absorb bending moments developed in the longitudinal direction of the rails. The concrete slab is divided in the longitudinal direction by transversely extending expansion joints whereby sections of the slab can be replaced if damage occurs. There is sufficient space between adjacent ties above the concrete slab to add sound absorbing material.

Railroad roadway for high speed rail-mounted vehicles

A support system for a multiple-span bridge constructed of reinforced concrete or prestressed concrete includes a primary structure and a secondary structure. The primary structure bridges the spans between intermediate supports or between an abutment and an adjacent intermediate support and includes serially arranged support members elongated in the long direction of the bridge. The width of the support members is a fraction of the full useful width of the bridge. The secondary structure forms the roadway slab and is supported on the primary structure. The secondary structure is made up of serially arranged individual roadway sections extending in the long direction of the bridge. The roadway sections are supported by bearing members resting directly on the support members of the primary structure with the roadway sections being closely spaced in the elongated direction of the bridge as compared to the spans between the intermediate members and the abutments. The roadway sections extend over the expansion joints between the support members. The roadway sections can have a dimension in the elongated direction which is comparable to that of the support members or which is a multiple of the length of the support members. The support members can be constructed in place on the bridge, while the roadway sections can be constructed at a single site and then moved over the support members into their final position on the bridge.

Support system for a multiple-span bridge

In a multi-span bridge support system, the superstructure includes a row of elongated single-span girders arranged end-to-end and supported at their ends on vertical support columns. At least two adjacent girders in a row are provided with fixed bearings at the juxtaposed ends over a common support column. The opposite ends of the girders are mounted on horizontally movable bearings. The location of the fixed bearing and the common support column forms a fixed point. At the fixed point the ends of the girders are notched so that the vertical and horizontal surfaces within the notched region face corresponding surfaces on the top of the support column. A vertical bearing for transmitting horizontal forces extending in the elongated direction of the girders, is located between the top of the support column and the juxtaposed vertical surface within the notched region of the adjacent girders. Tension members, extending perpendicularly to and through the vertical surfaces on which the vertical bearings are located, are fixed to the girders. The tension members extend through the support column and the girders without any bonding action therewith. Further, a horizontal bearing is mounted between the top of the support column and the horizontal extending surfaces within the notched region of the girders.

Multiple-span bridge support system for vehicles with high braking forces

A support structure, such as a bridge support structure for long spans between supports, includes a beam-like girder formed of reinforced concrete or prestressed concrete connected to and supported on the upper ends of support piers so that the girder is bending resistant. A strut framework extends between the girder and the support pier and includes a reinforced concrete compression strut extending diagonally upwardly from the lower end of the support pier to the girder at a position spaced outwardly from the support pier whereby the dead load of the compression strut is supported by tie rods extending from the compression strut upwardly to the girder or the pier. The compression strut forms one side of a triangle with the other sides formed by the girder and the support with the tie rods located within the triangle.

Support structure, particularly for a long span bridge

A stiffening girder for a stayed cable bridge, constructed of reinforced concrete or prestressed concrete, is formed by a closed multi-cell box extending in the long direction of the bridge. The upper part of the box is a substantially horizontally extending roadway slab. Webs extending downwardly from the roadway slab and in the long direction of the bridge combine with the roadway slab to form at least a part of the multi-cell box. The webs can be vertically arranged or obliquely inclined relative to the roadway slab. Further, a bottom slab spaced downwardly from the roadway slab may complete the box. The girder or box is supported by inclined cables extending in at least one support plane along the long direction of the bridge. The cables can be attached to the girder along its center line in the long direction or at symmetrical locations positioned outwardly from the center line.

Stiffening girder for a stayed cable bridge

In constructing a stayed girder bridge, the end abutments and intermediate permanent bridge supports are built in place. The stiffening girder is formed of reinforced concrete or prestressed concrete and is built in sections at a location adjacent one of the abutments. As each section is built, it is connected to the previously produced sections by the reinforcing used, and the stiffening girder is moved from the one abutment toward the other by the length of the sections. When the girder reaches the other end abutment, a reinforced concrete tower is constructed upwardly from the girder at a location spaced from the abutments. A pair of stays are constructed of prestressed concrete each secured at one end to the other part of the tower. From the tower each stay extends in an opposite direction diagonally downwardly to and is secured to the stiffening girder.

Method of constructing a stayed girder bridge

A stressed tension member includes tension elements positioned in a tubular sheathing member extending through and encased in a structural concrete component. The tension member also includes grout which along with the tension elements completely fills the transverse cross-section of the sheathing member. The tension member is anchored to the concrete components. If necessary, by releasing the anchorage, the tension member can be removed from the concrete component and replaced by another tension member, since the member is separated from engagement with the concrete component by the sheathing member.

System for anchoring stressed tension members in a concrete component

A pair of longitudinally extending cantilevered beam-type structural members are interconnected for the transmission of shearing forces between them. A part is secured to and projects longitudinally from the cantilevered end of one of the structural members into a horizontally displaceable bearing in the other. A reinforcing part is rigidly connected to one of the structural members and extends in the longitudinal direction of the structural member from its cantilevered end into and is supported by at least one longitudinally displaceable bearing in the other said structural member. The reinforcing part can be a single element or a pair of elements with one being a compression element and the other a tension element.
